I just started using 400DPI, and it's a lot easier to aim. You need a gaming (read: bigger than average) mousepad, though. The last time I used this test (about a year ago with my G5v2) I was using around 1000-1200DPI, and if I recall right I didn't do near as well. There's a lot of other factors that could have affected my aim as well though (experience, mouse, mousepad, drivers, etc).
I think around 400DPI is the way to go. I actually saw that carnage used 400DPI in TF2, and I couldn't resist trying it (Blasphemy, I know. You're NEVER supposed to use other people's settings). I just switched just this afternoon and I'm hitting a lot better than I used to. Of course, that could be because I was almost positively dealing with lots of negative acceleration in Source games at those higher DPI.
ANYWAYS, the point of this overly-verbose reply was to say: Try 400DPI
