Fallout 3 and Windows 7 freezing problem

Thread Starter
Im having a hard time with fallout 3. I have Windows 7 RC 64bit installed. I use daemon tools to mount up an image that has been made from my dvd, it worked just fine under 32bit XP. Now I've installed 1,6 patch and my game keeps freezing every 10 minutes or less. It just locks up, the sounds still work though, I cant quick save but I can CTRL+ALT+DEL to task manager and kill the process so the game doesnt really crash. Tried low graphics also and I've VSync disabled by that i_prevent thing. Could you please help me find the problem, Im lost

Could be an overclocking issue. Revert overclocks to reference values and try again?

I could try that but I dont think it would help. I have ran LinX to prove its stable, but Fallout 3 has the most mysterious crashes...

fallout 3 has many problems anyway, on my vista 64 i get crashes about every 45mins and thats with no overclock, so it might just be fallout not liking 64bit.

CPU clocks at stock, DDR at stock, GPU at stock: took 2 minutes to freeze. No issue with clocks here.

Im on 32 bit vista and when playing fallout i get random lockups that last from 30secs to a minute. Then after the lockup everything runs fine.

I had a major problem with the 1.6 patch in that the game wouldnt even start, i posted a thread about it and got told to try in xp compatibility mode and it worked and seems to be a lot more stable now.

Have you tried using the DVD for this instead of mounting the image.
Also Windows 7 as much as the love for it, it's still un-stable for some in games. Also make sure that you use a driver cleaner and uninstall your GPU drivers, chipset drivers while in safe mode. Then re-install your drivers in safe mode and see if that helps.

Win7's perfectly stable for 99.9% of the games out there (installed and played 100+ games since I first installed Win7 and besides the error with dxdiag which used to make Nwn2 unplayable, i've yet to experience any problem related to Win7).
Drivers won't help neither in this case.

@OP: A quick browing of Bethesda's forums and you'd have known that quite a bunch of people reported lockouts and random lag after installing the patch 1.6
So it's not ur windows who's at fault, it's the patch
