Still doesn't explain how the computer needs to be able to play HD video...unless her Blu-Ray player can make rips somehow....

Blu-Ray drives are only around $70 now.

Edit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106325
$59.99.

She specified HD video, not gaming, so if I were you I'd downgrade the videocard to a 4670 and then add the Blu-Ray drive.

Don't see the need for the 4850... that's way overkill. Go with a 4830, or 46xx, or even 43xx. Other than that, looks like a fantastic build. Pretty much exactly what I would do with said budget.

I will go get a cheaper video card, but upgrade the CPU a little, perhaps grab something from Microcenter if you have one near you,
or just get the E5200

I'd also say 790GX, but with an x2 BE.
cheapest i could find:
790gx asrock
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157162
7850 BE
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103678
isn't that enough to multitask and HD playback?
saves you about $140.

The CPU is perfectly fine. I realize this is Overclock.net, but come on, some people need to know when enough is enough. An overclocked E2180 will be plenty to handle what he said she'd be using it for. My old OC'd E2140 handled HD video perfectly fine.

Eh. I'd still avoid onboard, HD capable or not. Actual graphics cards seem to have a longer lifetime than onboard chips in my experiences.

Hmm wasn't aware of that, thanks.

TS: Good luck on the build, and anatomy is cool but hard to learn.. I have to re-do some exams this summer..

Decreased to a non raid mb, spent the $2 for the E5200, keeping the 4850 ($30 isn't worth the loss in performance, this will keep the system alive longer), spent the extra couple dollars for the 1066mhz ram. So what do you guys think of the following build??

Looks good, except I would spend the extra $5 and get the Caviar Black:

As I said before, I'd drop the videocard down to a 4670 and add a Blu-Ray drive, since one of the things she wants it to do is play HD video. How will a 4850 keep the system alive longer than a 4670? The 4850 isn't needed since it won't be used for gaming. The E2180 always would have been more than enough, and it's not worth extra money for faster ram. I game and I still only use 800mhz ram.
