GTS 250 and World of Warcraft

Hi. I am new to this site. I have encountered some issues with my recently purchased and installed Nvidia gts 250 512mb video card. My framerates for world of warcraft dropped drastically low compared to my old video card 9800gtx+.

I'm very confused because I thought that the gts 250 is a slight upgrade to the 9800gtx+. Instead of getting slightly higher fps during gameplay, my frame rates suck really bad in raid instances like Ulduar 25 man and even some parts of Northrend world like Howling Fjord. FPS would drop to around 10-12 during boss fights and large pulls... and that's with most settings turned down to low and resolution only at 960 x 600 widescreen. No shadows have been enabled as well. Vsync has also been turned off ingame and through the nvidia control panel.

My 9800gtx+ was able to handle WoW wrath of the lich king with similar settings to these with no issues no matter where I was at. I was able to run resolution at 1152 x 864 to 1280 x 960 and still raid Ulduar 25 man without frames ever dropping to 10-11. This is ridiculous because my 9800gtx+ broke so I bought the 250 to replace it and now it can't even handle a game like WoW as good as the supposedly inferior 9800gtx+... or could it be something else with my computer? Anti aliasing is only at 2x with the 250 gts. The 9800gtx+ was able to handle 4x AA for WoW and still have better fps than my 250.

Here is my system specs:
Processor: AMD 64 x2 dual core 6000+ 3.15ghz
Video card: Nvidia gts 250 super clocked edition 512mb EVGA
ram: 4gb
Power supply Unit: Corsair TX750watt power supply

Did you get rid of the drivers for the 9800gtx+? they may be conflicting if you didn't.

the GTS 250 is a rebadged 9800gtx+, there will be very very little difference in performance, other than power consumption.

Correct, but that means he should get the same fps on his 250 that he did with the 9800gtx+, and thats not the case. So help him figure out why.

yea I got rid of the old drivers with driver sweep before the gts 250 was put in. I'm also fully aware of the shady business nvidia pulled off with the 250. I know it's similar to the 9800gtx+ except with some flash bios differences and whatsoever and smaller size etc etc. I just bought the 250 because I loved the performance I was receiving from the 9800gtx+ and the now affordable price of the 250.

In other words, I needed to save money while retaining the around the same performances I had with the 9800gtx+ so I went with the gts 250 instead of buying another 9800gtx+ due to it going bad on me. I just want to know why World of Warcraft (a game that doesn't really push my system to the limits like FO3 and Oblivion does) would have such crappy fps even on super low settings when the 9800gtx+ is suppose to be inferior to the 250. Maybe it's something with my computer? I don't know. That's why I'm asking the question(s) here and hoping to get some help.

EVGA wasn't much help at all. I called them and told them the issue with WoW and compared it to my older inferior video card the 9800gtx+. All the guy told me was "sorry unless it's a real technical issue, I can't do anything to help you..." BS if you ask me. It IS a real technical issue. A freakin video card that's suppose to slightly better than the 9800gtx+ is giving me crappier performance.

I would try reseating the card and reinstalling your drivers... there has been plenty of times where it feels like nothing could possibly be the problem, and after redoing everything.. it just works fine for whatever reason. it's worth a shot.

Uninstall>Reboot>Safe Mode>Driver Cleaner>Reboot>Install
