Man... I don't know why people bash you for choosing things you want to choose. SO WHAT if you wanted to be different!? I say GO for it. If you like the CPU cooler, thats awesome! Jeez. The nerve of some people. By the way, the 790GX series doesn't support more than 2 lanes, unfortunately. But Two 4890 in crossfire is sick

Props!

He has a good point, the best ive seen on a 790GX motherboard is 16x/8x, Youll see some benefit but Im not sure Itll be the full benefit of your second card. But I may be wrong, so if I am, please correct me someone.

There IS a slight bottleneck when running a 4870 in 8x mode. This kinda defeats the purpose. BUt no matter! Its not like you will be lagging anyway.

Mostly because it's not a dark knight/mugen2/true/megatron

That and price-wise there are other products (the first two I mentioned) that will beat a zalman, and allow for higher overclocks before they run out of steam.

Don't get me wrong, I like my Zalman, and my cpu stays cool(28c idle,36 with normal use) but it's now actually the loudest part in my case under normal circumstances, and given what I know now, I probably would've gone with a DK/Mugen2 for upgradability's sake.

I see SporkofdooM, I guess it's too late for me to get another cooler since I got this already but I will keep this in mind for the future.

Is 42°C a halfway decent idle temp for the processor at stock voltage?

Sounds high. But I never had that processor. I know however that those Phenoms run cool.

It depends what you're running the processor at. Mine loads at 48-49C (never hit 50) and idles at about 37C. Im running it at 3.7GHz with 1.424v but then Ive also got a push/pull mega setup. So theres really no good way to compare but I would agree that it sounds a hair high especially if its at stock speeds.

Hmm alright I'll try reseating the heatsink later today.

I ordered the Corsair 750w PSU off of Newegg this morning and I'll order another Asus 4890 whenever they come back in stock! Also if this cooler doesn't perform the way I want it to I'll order something else, suggestions anyone?
