New AM3 Build w/ Pics! - Page 6

I had that case before. It was a solid, heavy case. I liked the appearance but I wish the 3 fans could've been 120mm instead of 80. I'm also a cable management freak so that case was a no-no. It does have a removable mobo tray though.

On stock clocks/volts I LOAD at 43C with my Mugen 2 on my 955. Ambients in Hawaii are about 23-26C.

The Zalman 9700 is a decent cooler for Dual cores, but just OK for quads.
I do like the look of them (I have one in my wife's computer with an AM2 3600+).

What TIM did you use? If you used the stuff that came with the Zalman, that could be part of the problem. I used it on 2 CPU's and when I switched it out with AS5, temps dropped 3-5°C.

I bought some OCZ paste so I could try it out but I haven't compared it with AS5 yet.

Hmm I decided that I'm going to have to ditch this Zalman, 39-42° at stock voltage idling is unacceptable when my room temp is around 22°.

Good choice. Also, OCZ Freeze is better than AS5. So if that's what you're using you're set!

Good

Now does anyone know exactly what the difference between the Xigmatek Dark Knight and the Xigmatek HDT-RS1283 is? They look almost exactly the same to me.

Dark Knight comes with a better fan and is black. Exactly the same other than that. Same goes for the S1283.

I'd recommend the Scythe Mugen 2. I had to make the decision of getting the Dark Knight or the Mugen 2 and the Mugen 2 costs so much less so after reading and finding out it's BETTER than the Dark Knight and cools better than unlapped TRUE's, I had to get myself one.

Here's the link - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835185093

I should add that if you do get the Mugen 2 you won't be able to use larger RAM(like the corsair dominator RAM).

Yeah I was looking at that, but I think it's about a CM or two too big for this case and I'd have to cut a hole in it :/
