I have been playing mmo's for last 7 or so years, my first mmo was Anarchy Online.
I missed out on Ultima Online and Everquest, but I've play quite a few mmo's since I first tried AO. I played quite a bit of WOW, AOC, and a particularly special game called EVE.
Now I want to call your attention to something, I am sure many of you who follow or play ever are already well aware of this, as it happened in feb, but those of you are less aware I want you to read it and think about:

Now this is an example of a game that has it's own history. This is not the first time something like this has happened, tho for those of us that have played EVE and heard whispers of the war between BoB and Goonfleet, this is most likely the most significant event of it's kind in EVE's history.
No other game has this. WoW has a few well known Rogues and Warriors who make pvp videos, and other games might have lesser versions of the same kind of thing.
Eve has it's own history, it's own heroes and villains, major players and historical figures.
And unlike developer controlled mythology of a WOW or an Everquest, it's entirely player driven and completely unpredictable.
A few years back a player was able to steal several hundred thousand dollar (yes US dollars) worth of ISK in a scam that he deployed for over a year.
The reason I write this thread, is because I am kind of shocked that there are no alternatives to EVE out there. I suppose there is Darkfall but honestly it doesn't even come close.
I will say that as much as I love eve, I really cannot play it. I am not a fan of the interface, as well as a few other features. But the idea of EVE is fantastic and I am saddened that nothing else even aspires to copy it.
So what do you think about EVE and games like it? And why do you think there are not more games out there, whose dramatic fates are driven entirely by player decisions.
