Sennheiser hd 201 vs. Hd 202

Thread Starter
Hello everyone,

I love sound, and I've heard so many good things about Sennheiser. Browsing through their newegg section, I was alarmed at how inexpensive these particular units were.

I listen to Rammstein, lots of trance, and some r&b.

Basically, I enjoy bass, maybe even a little bit of excessive bass.

Which would you recommend?

I plan on ordering before I go to bed

EDIT: Also, I like noise cancelling headphones. I'd like it if they "clamp" on the head. Do these do that?

HD202's then cuz the HD201 has no bass.
I'd still go $34 for the JVC RX-700 @ Buy.com.

HD202 = has excessive bass that flows into the mids = not a good thing.

I have the 202's I had them for 3 years now and I got them on sale at newegg for 20$ they are great and have nice bass.

I really like these as the cord has taken obvious abuse over 3 years and the connection hasnt failed yet. The best feature of these are the break away ear pieces, if you drop them or step on them the ear pieces pop out and they are designed really so there are no delicate pieces to break and they pop back in and work great. INGENIOUS AND INVALUABLE.

I haven't personally tried the 202s, but I think the difference between the two is probably negligible (and the 201s are on sale for $20 with free shipping). I suggested the 201s to a friend on a budget, and I've listened to some music with them. They're definitely great bang for the buck headphones with decent lows, mids, and soundstage but somewhat lacking in the highs IMO - but you can't really be expecting perfection at the $20 price range. They aren't exactly excessively bassy either, if that's really a concern for you.

All things aside, get a pair of 201s and you'll definitely feel you got more than you paid for

The 202's sound great but they are uncomfortable..I'd recommend spending 30$+

You'll hate the HD 201s. They are for people who enjoy sound quality. The bass is there, but it doesn't drown everything else out, but to people who enjoy bass they will be a little freaked out when the hear what their music actually sounds like without the bass overpowering it.

lol i remember when i first dropped my 202's and the piece came off i freaked out and noticed i could pop it straight back in.
but back on topic i would get the 202's for bass it can be a bit muggy but if you listen to flac files or any other loss-less format the muggy-ness goes away at least it does for me when I'm listening too soad.

I will say that the 201's may lack the bass you desire. However, I felt this might be an issue upon purchasing my pair of 201's, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality, and the way most music sounded with these headphones as opposed to my old ones. Music sounds completely different (better).

Anyway, I'd recommend the 201's. Price can't be beaten for the quality, and if they aren't to you're standards you are only down $20.
