On a side note, I thought you could re-spec your character in Awakenings. I couldnt find where / how to do it. Am I mistaken?
You buy a tome of Manual of Focus in Vigil's Keep and that allows to reallocate your points. You can do it as often as you want as long as you have the golds to buy the tome.

Good expansion, but not worth the $40. Way to short. Reviewers expected at least 20hrs of gameplay, I finished it around 11hrs.

I finally finished Awakenings and I'm a little disappointed to be honest. The characters were awful and the last boss was well generic so to speak. I'd buy it again just because I like playing the game and am at the point where the story doesn't even matter any more, but man it's terrible. Mainly because all your companions are just boring. None of them are interesting.

I am playing DA:O right now and I have to applaud this game as one of the most fun roleplaying experiences I've had in a long time. Ever since playing a few good Custom Made Modules for NWN2 (not the main campaign which is pretty mediocre imo), I haven't found an RPG worthy to take my time away from reality. I first picked up DA:O a couple of months back, but didn't really get into it at the time as I had a lot of pressure at work at the time.

Now that things are more relaxed I am enjoying this game fully as an Elven Rogue Female Dual Wielder. Loved the intro story to the race/gender, and everything leading up to the 15% completed point that I am up to now. There have been some really well distinguished choices that affected the game so far, and I absolutely love that about RPGs. That's the point after all, to be able to fulfill a role, weather good evil or neutral and see the consequences of your actions and how it affects the world around you. Much like in real life, but for the exception that you won't be suffering the consequences personally since you are controlling an avatar in a virtual world. Very fun combat system too, my rogue has done about 50k damage now while the rest of the party sits at around 5k damage dealt. A pure dex and cunning build is beastly, and I love flanking enemies with my lvl 3 stealth during combat. I don't want to spoil any of the story so far for anyone that hasn't played it yet, but it's pretty epic and in some ways has a classical theme.

It's refreshing to see a world that isn't overwhelmingly filled with magic; where it is treated as something extremely dangerous and feared by the masses as it should be. Worlds like the Dungeons&Dragons universe are very fun, but imo magic is way too diffused among wizards/druids/other classes and it simply loses it's appeal from a roleplaying's view at least in my eyes. I love the way they linked magic to demons in this game and how mages constantly have to fight from being taken over by these mysterious (at least to this point) beings. Only thing that turned me off was the blood unrealistically being smothered all over the PCs after entering battle and being hit once. That is easily resolved by turning off an option in the menus.

If you are a fan of roleplaying of any sort and give value to awesome storytelling/lore and quite frankly the MOST beautiful graphics I've ever seen in an RPG, then give this game a go.

With regards,
Andros

yeah, the game is awesome. absolutely awesome. the game world, as well, is so brilliantly crafted, deep, and fascinating.

for anyone who is having trouble with crashes on Steam with 1.03, i found this post. maybe it will help until a proper patch is released.

Had a question for someone who's played through DA:O more than once.

I finished my first playthrough a while back and figured I would start up another. I don't know if its a glitch or something that's unlocked when the game has been completed once, but some (haven't checked all of them) of the specializations are already unlocked. I don't need the training.

That really takes a lot of the fun out of it since I don't even have to do the quests to get the arcane warrior or duelist training (etc.). I already have them right when I hit level 7.

Can anyone confirm this?

When you unlock a specialization, you unlock it for all further playthroughs. It is normal.

I like the blood splatter. It is exaggerated, totally unecessary but makes me laugh everytime!
