i7 Batch specific purchase? - Page 2

4.4 GHz on a D0?! that's nice. Probably wouldn't get that with a C0. The highest I've heard a C0 go was 4.2, yours. but between the actual batch numbers, there's a minimal gain. I guess it's safe to say as long as you have a D0 chip, it's going to be easy to get to 4.0 .. right? I'm still building my i7 pc, and i'm hoping for 4.0+

I can hit 4.5 but my xiggy can't handle that lol gets a little too hot. With my megahalems I should be able to run that 24/7

Yeah its prime 95 and Intel burn test stable. Max temp hit 87C, I know that is past the safe zone though but thats why I bought a Megahalems. Games wont hit that temp anyway so I am good until saturday when it gets here

EDIT: Yeah unless you get real unlucky with a bump chip you should be able to hit 4.0 easy. It really doesn't take much. For the most part it is a guarantee. Mine is one of the earlier batches I know that.

Yeah I was just about to say 30Ninjas, I have seen quite a few peeps with D0s complaining they can't hit 4ghz, Ive also seen plenty of C0s hitting 4with ease and plenty also stopping around 3.6 or 3.8 with 1.3V+

I got luck of the draw with mine, luckily I bought it used so I knew exactly what I was getting.

Here is an example of a very good D0

Well, what about the motherboards? I know that x58's are supposed to be pretty equal, but there is also MoBos, bad chipset cooling, and last but not least... bad overclockers too inpatient that run too much voltage to the NB and kill their MoBo's real OC capabilities.

Same with mobos, you get lucky or unlucky, I have seen a fair share of problems with the real expensive mobos like the classified yet I've seen some of the lower end x58s running no problem. That's how it is with all mobos, I got lucky with mine whereas theres 2-3 people witt Bloodrages having a hell of a time right now in the Intel section. I know someone with a Classified that won't even overclock a few mhz above stock speed.

I would say just buy the mobo you like and suits your money, then hopefully you have no problems with it.

The batch on Tankguys' site right now (3849B314) should be a good one.

I've got a 3849B202 and it's doing 4GHz with 1.20v. Seems capable of 4.2GHz with ~1.25v, runs hot though.

Anyway, if the page is up to date, grab one. Well worth the extra few bucks for a much higher probability of a good chip.

From the voltage scalling I've personally seen, and what I've read of other people's results, I'd think 4.3-4.5GHz would be a viable 24/7 clock on good water for a 3849Bxxx.

As always results will vary, even between identical batches. However, the 3849Bs do seem to be quite strong. Not quite the top of the top, but well above the more recent batches. The 39xxxxxxx dies made this year don't seem to be doing so great (with the occasional exeption), and if you order from a place with high volume/turn over, your chances of getting one of these newer/worse batches is higher.
