Cooler Master V10 Modding

Thread Starter
I recently ripped apart my system to redo the TM on the NB/SB/etc. I have always wanted to start playing with TEC's and seeing a post in this section by another member (100W for my ChillTec) inspired me to look at how i could mod my V10. Having an extra 40x40 TEC (from a chilltec coincidentally), though one of the leads came off, so ill probably buy another one), i was looking at ways to possibly add it to the V10 to enhance its cooling potential. Since TEC's are new to me, i wanted to get some input before i went ahead and, possibly, destroyed my V10/system/PSU...

V10 Back

Basic outline: (order may not be optimal)
1. Acuire new/Fix 40x40 TEC
2. Attach cold side to heatpipes on back of V10 (plate/no plate?)
3. Attach heatsink/fan to the hotside of the TEC
4. Run the TEC off primary PSU (either 12V or 5V or make it dynamic/adjustable?)
5. hope it works?

The coolermaster TEC only activates @ 50C or 60C from what i have gathered on the web so far, so this mod may actually negate that tec even functioning (would just running 2x 24/7 be plausable)? Also, would having 2 TEC on either side of the heatpipe cause any problems? I appreciate any help anyone can give me on this.

System specs are my main rig listed below...

i believe so. but since it is damaged, i really would like to buy a new one. was thinking i may leave the stock one as-is and use it as a backup if this new one fails, but this is just a thought...

i also wondered about the modding and found this:
http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...review-13.html
start from that page onto the next page.

i wasn't able to understand it, but he made it happen. hope you can simplify it for us. the v10 is only $80 in my area and i had my eye on it since it would be a really cheap tec when modded.

hope that helps

Well what he did was remove the board that control the voltage applied to the TEC and the temperature range at which it is to be turned on and simply plugged it into the molex connector. Now really this isn't the best thing to do. If you wanted to do a mod I'd say replace the current TEC with one just a little bit higher wattage, then replace both fans with higher speed ones (to help dissipate the extra heat). That'll probably give you a decent temp difference.

The higher the Qmax of the TEC the more heat it can move from the hotside to the coldside. Just keep in mind that eventually you'll run into a problem with TEC's and the power draw. Molex connectors can safely supply 7A. So you'll need to find a TEC that doesn't exceed 7A. http://www.shop.customthermoelectric...rd-TECs_c2.htm has a decent selection and they give the correct specs.

i saw the refrenced article too, and that why i wanted to go this route instead of theirs. Again, by replacing it with a bigger TEC, it would cool better, but there is a temp cutoff, so it will not activate until it has crossed that threshold. Finding that specific temp is the key. Thats why i was thinking to run the 2nd/bigger one on the back at all times...

also, if i recall, the efficiency is best @ 1/2 the rated voltage? If that is correct, would running a stronger one off the 5V wire in the molex yeild a better result?

Both of these statements are incorrect the TEC's uses those wattage's with the applied voltage BUT that has NO relation to it's P or Qmax
