Thats why i was thinking to run the 2nd/bigger one on the back at all times...

also, if i recall, the efficiency is best @ 1/2 the rated voltage? If that is correct, would running a stronger one off the 5V wire in the molex yeild a better result?
Lowering the input voltage relative to max input (Umax) increases the COP or efficiency. So a TEC running at 1/2 of Umax will be more "efficient" than one at Umax .. A TEC running at 1/3 of Umax will be more efficient than one running at 1/2 .. There's a point where the TEC doesn't work though

-_- that's what listed on there site and the box.

I'm not sure I believe the 9.8 amps.

says power 70 watts

As stated before thats how much power their TEC is using. That number is NOT an indication of how POWERFUL the TEC could be or is.

IE

i can get a 300watts of P TEC and apply only 70watts of electricity to it .. Now just because the 300watt TEC is only using 70watts DOESN'T make it a 70watt TEC it's still a 300watt TEC thats under volted.

Im not debating how much electricity their unit draws. I'm debated the statement made that since it draws 70 watts it therefore must be a 70watt TEC. You cannot make that assumption

screw how many watts the original uses get a two new ones better ones we the Qmaxs of.

Uhh, the issue you have is trying to find out what's "better" you can probably only go one up on increment or you could buy the most powerful 40x40mm TEC and under-volt it so much that you have little heat-load from the TEC itself. But you cannot use TWO TECs you just will not have enough air cooling power on that poor sucker.

there is no need to be so abusive here....

Ultrasonic is on the nod...

it says 70w on the box but that is power draw the actual TEC installed is probably an 80w but Coolit undervolt it. Coolit actually a lvery ow cooling wattage - lower than 70w or I think they do.... If you were to look at this low cooling wattage you might think an 80w TEc is bigger but in actual fact it the same thing as the one in the unit....

See....

Besides it is no where as simple an operation to just buy a bigger TEC and fit it....as you've been around awhile I would of thought YOU of all people would understand that.

So climb down off your high horse, mate.

If it was mine i'd stick a massive 120x38mm fan on the back of it . and i'd bin the TEC's controller and just plug it straight into the PSU..

LOl if was you, youd never buy one in the first place....

Your right though it's about the only way..people don't realize there is a perfectly reasonable TEC on there you just have to power it differently.
correction 80w is hardly perfectly reasonable but you know what I mean.

there are problems...to be bigger you need a qmax at least 80w for example a 12714 will do 125w but at half power (80w) would be no better than the one you have..... the problem is that this TEC at half power also draws 7amps which is about the max. you can take through a molex plug so you cant use a bigger TEC than this if you want to use a molex.

Bottom line forget it if you want to use a molex...

Like I said above just power the TEC differently...not through a molex or the coolit controller.
