XP Media Center Remote

I need to get the remote listed below to work with Media Center 2005. Is there somewhere i can find a driver for it that will allow it to work? Seems that it was originally designed to work with vista.

Mind didnt come with a driver (at least none that I saw)
Just plugged in the IR USB module and it worked off the Media centre software.

This one didnt either, but XP just reconizes it as BB+Dongle(eb) and cant find software to operate it.

Vista reconizes it fine and it works.

I think this is the remote you are talking about as I was thinking of using it with a MCE_2005 machine.... but gave up on MCE_2005- and switched to WIN 7 RC 7100..

*Assuming the remote you're talking about is the TSGH-IR01 - OEM - the below info should help....



TSGH-IR01 - OEM (Beanbag) IR Remote, not working

Hello, everyone~

HP is now bundling a remote and reciever (models: TSGH-IR01, TSGI-IR01) with their Vista media center desktops. I recently purchased their m8000n which came with this OEM remote/receiver, this is a standard eHome beanbag type receiver, which should work with any MCE setup. The only difference is that it is an OEM device, and as such has a different Vendor ID. Editing the standard irbus INF file to add this VID allows me to install the device on MCE05.

Now, the device is recognized, and is showing up in the USB devices, and the HID devices just as it should, but the remote is not actually functioning at all, no matter what I press the computer (and any programs, including Media Center) do not react at all.

Any ideas?

(Also, the remote and receiver both light their LEDs when I press anything on the remote, which means that the device is being recognized by Windows. Before installing the drivers, the receiver will not react to the remote's key presses at all.)

FINALLY SOLVED for me (on an HP 7655)

The HP remote was my nightmare too – thanks Grtz Wailer for pointing me in the right direction.


Having made the amends to the .inf files my remote started working. BUT on a reboot everything went back to no-go.


Looking back into the inf folder you can see that each .inf file has an associated .PNF file. Apparently, these are created by Windows after the .inf file is accessed for the first time. Thereafter it is the .PNF file that is used and not the .inf file. If you make amends to the .inf file these are ignored because the .PNF file has been previously created. And the solution is to delete any .PNF files for which you want to amend the associated .inf file. Windows will then create new .PNFs from your amended .inf files when you reinstall the device(s).


When I finally reconnected/reinstalled, the system went through a number of cycles of reinstall as it racked up the various different keyboards etc.


The steps that made my remote work were:


1.- uninstalled the device


2. - amended the .inf files as suggested by Grtz Wailer (thanks again)


3. - deleted the relevant .PNF files (irbus.PNF etc)


4. - connected the remote; letting Windows install it automatically (accept the uncertified driver(s) throughout the process)






PHEW


(The trouble starts (presumably) because HP has not included the device VID/PID refernces in the original .inf files - yet the refs work their way into the registry on (mis)installation the first time - but cannot be accessed by Windows without the correctly created .PNF files.)


Anyone know a URL to download the remote user guide?

Where are the files that i need to modify? And how do i go about actually opening them up and doing it?

I'm very interested in this remote combo for some reason...

Can you expand on this subject, Not much info on this combo...

From everything I've read, (XP MCE 2005 aside) from those selling the remote /ir sensor the remote combo was for "Vista", not Win7. One seller for example when asked if combo would work in Win7 said remote itself works in Win7, the IR sensor only works in Vista.
Your report of it working flawlessly in Win7 has me thinking A: Those that are selling the things don't know which way is up.. and B: Persons that just plug it in and it "works" don't post info on the combo....

What Win7 variation are you running? Ver, x86, x64
Running Win7 Media center app, or another DVR app?
Fresh install?
Retail?
OEM?
HP OEM? (This would explain it "working"- HP has added the needed inf, device ID's)
Custom built PC? (Or HP PC?)

Did you have to do anything special to get it to work... or was it plug and play?

If additional steps where needed please expand -if any special files were needed please upload them somewhere (Hotfile, Megaupload, RapidShare, etc) and link

How would you rate the remote?
Programmable?
Learning remote?
How would you rate the range, sensitivity?
How is the build quality? Robustly built?
How does it "feel" in your hand? (Material- balance, key placement)
Battery life= Good? Does it eat batteries?
Related= How much "use" has remote gotten? Alot of use, change channels often? (My better half skips around alot.)


How would you rate the long term use of the product?

Would you buy it again? Is there something "better" out there now?
