Try disconnecting the sata drive, booting from a windows disc, install windows onto the IDE drive, once that is running turn off the computer, attach the sata drive, and it should work.

Ok I'm trying that, but halfway through installation I get an error. It looks like BSOD but not the same error message at all. Any ideas?

Thanks again!

I'm not a big fan of IDE hdd's, but check to make sure it's header is set to master drive. If it wasn't going to work it shouldn't have even started trying to install windows.

Sorry for my stupidity, but how do I check to see if its set to master drive? Also I just noticed in the bios an option that says ATA/IDE mode: (I can either choose, native or legacy.) Does that have anything to do with this?

There should be a series of eight or so pins like :::.: According to the old drive in front of me covering the pins on the left [:]::.: is the master, but check on your drive to see if it says otherwise.

Looks like it is probably in the Master position already then. Only suggestion is trying to install windows again and see if it was just a one time error. Beyond that I really don't know as I do not use IDE Hdds.

I'll try booting again in a second. But is this port used for anything? I only need to IDE cable and Molex connected right?

IDE should just work with the IDE cable and the molex. It shouldn't need anything else.

Those extra pins are just for the header, which is that little clip.

Ah, I got the same error message. What I'm considering doing is completely erasing my HDD, by reinstalling Vista on that. After that is done I want to boot into the OS with my fresh HDD, and then copying everything over to it from their HDD. Is there a way to copy everything over from their HDD to mine? Not just copy and paste, because I've tried that before and some application/programs don't work properly.
