My First i7 Build - Page 10

OCZ Freeze and AS5 are much better than the stock TIM (Thermal Interface Material), but the stock TIM is perfectly fine to hold you over until the new TIM comes in. It's not bad it's just not as good by a few degrees.

Ok thanks. Do I need a special fluid/cloth to remove the old TIM before putting on the new stuff?

I use 99% Isopropyl Alcohol with q-tips to remove it. It will remove all of it very easily and quickly as well as drying within seconds.

Alright thank you! Also I just noticed the Optical Drive I was to use for the new build from my old computer is IDE. Should I bother getting SATA one?

Thanks

You will notice almost zero difference between the Sata and IDE drives. I'm actually running an IDE drive, because I just can't justify paying $25 for a new drive, when the IDE drive I have now works perfectly.

Ok thanks, you saved me some cash. Is there any way I can swap my old computer with someone I know, and just stick there HDD in? My HDD in that computer was SATA, but their's would be IDE. Would this work? I have an open IDE port on my motherboard.

Thanks again!

You're more than likely going to need to reinstall the OS because of the fact that it's a different mobo/CPU, but I have a feeling that the computer was trying to boot off of the old SATA drive. Try manually selecting the IDE drive to boot off of.

Thanks, but I just tried manually booting the IDE drive and same thing. I now have both drives connected and manually booted the SATA one. And when I hit the desktop it showed it installing driver software for the IDE drive. If I were to try again and boot from the IDE would anything change?

EDIT: Nope same error. Is there anything I can that would help while I can access both drives at once?
