You should paint the metal in that cool paint that is like green and purple and pink and black at the same time!

Mr Rustler, if i may.

If you are going to use black of any kind, might i suggest using something like this?

There is a ton of flake in it and it looks super wicked when you ignore the directions not to use clearcoat and put like 10 coats on. That pic is the mobo tray from my copper top worklog from a year ago.

Spray paint is nice and all but I think if your considering mass production then my vote goes for powdercoating. It has a more durable finish and cures faster due to the heat/oven type curing. Just my

Then again if you do mass produce this then out sourcing the paint may even be a better alternative to save time and money.

That was one little tidbit I forgot to mention. It will most certainly need to be powdercoated especially along any points that move against each other for maximum durability. Spray paint just won't hold up to repeated sliding surface against surface

thanks Smash, I'm not generally a big fan of flaked paints altho they do look nice in some applications, including your mod I am leaning towards a flat black "stealth surface" look, like the planes have.

N2, thanks for the suggestions. this single version of the project is just to get it finished before the cold comes. I am in the process of revamping a lot of what I did here in order to drastically cut build time, and lower the weight of the frame assemblies. This includes switching over to an all aluminum design, and ditching the welding altogether in favor or aluminum torch welding/brazing using Durifix alu brazing rods which I have ordered to test with. Going to an all aluminum design can also re-incorporate Sam in this (if he wants) because I have found ways to cut down on machining, and overall material needs, keeping time and costs down.

When I have time I will make a post to try and bring these topics up to date in this thread, instead of piece-mealing out little bits of info from the ever-changing big picture.
