Time to replace a 7900GTX? - Page 2

I don't think the time to replace it is now - wait for DX11 cards, preferably from both sides so there's a price war. Besides, on a 17" screen, a 4870 or other high performance card is pretty extreme overkill. A 9600GT would be more than enough tbh.

For $199, you can't go wrong.
Thx for the link, but I found this:

I'd probably go for the XFX one.

Well we have hundreds if not thousands of users who still thinks 3DMark is a good benchmark running at 1280x1024...
sigh...
It's like testing out a scuba suit in a 1 inch deep puddle...

There really isn't much info for Dx11 out there...

EDIT - I'm at Hornsby
4870 will eat your 7900gtx, if you want a bit more punch for a fair price from nvidia a gtx275 would be a great upgrade, or for the cheap I hear the Gts250 is also a good card

:/ In that case a 9600 of some sort should be a good upgrade as mentioned above, good performance for a low price so no need to feel bad when new cards come out

gtx 275 in many cases is outperformed by the 9870 1GB and at about $60.00
less in price. The GTS 250 is nothing but a rebranded 9800 GTX +, which is nothing but a rebranded, smaller die 8800 Ultra. Anyway, I was going to mention the GTS 250, if your going to keep that monitor. If you upgrade the monitor, I would get the 9870 1 GB. Or you can delay your upgrade and wait until the first string of DX11 cards come out and are tested against DX10 cards. If they are exposed to be nothing as great as they're being cracked up to be, as I suspect, I would get the damn HD 4870 card. I was going to get this card, but the well was dry from the source where I was going to purchase it, so I settled for my current card (which I love). Good luck, and most of all don't be hasty or impatient.

With that monitor of yours you won't need an upgrade for a few years if you wait for the DX11 cards. Do it, most of ocn is waiting for these DX11 cards, you only need to wait till september.
