MSI GX620 OR ASUS G50VM-X1 Overclock?

I am trying to decide if I want to upgrade to i7 or buy me a decent gaming laptop. I don't game too much really but do a lot of video encoding and such. Was thinking about getting a refurb of either the MSI GX620-001US or the Asus G50VM-X1. The MSI is $670 and comes with p8400 and 9600m, the Asus comes with t5750 and 9700m and is only $600. My question is do either of these allow bios overclocking? I know the MSI has a push button overclock not sure on the asus. Also do you think it would be worth buying a Q9000 quad for $300 and dropping it in either of them, and if I did would the MSI push button overclock still work? Also if you have any other suggestions on decent gaming laptop for cheap links would be appreciated

Concern on heat and a Quad. I don't know of any notebook with BIOS OC options. If I were you if you get a notebook, the G50 and a faster Dual Core.

The MSI GX620 has an option in the bios to overclock 15-20%.
Then you press the button and it will overclock to what you set (15-20%).
You have to be on AC power.
I don't think it has the normal overclocking options like a desktop would.

I dont think the ASUS G50VM-X1 has bios overclocking either.
Depending on the chipset there is software you can use like setfsb (programs the clockgenerator to run at what ever speed you want).
Also with setfsb you can dissable the spread spectrum, helps with stability.

There are other ways too like CPU pin mod (BSEL mod), hardware PLL (clock genorator) mod.

Yea I've used setfsb on an old dell I had, it's how I got into overclocking actually lol. Really though I don't have much interest in software overclocking, I read about the OC button and it interested me. Also on the Asus I read here:

which makes me think the asus has overclocking thru Direct Console in the bios? Perhaps I'll buy one of the laptops this friday along with a q9000 and see how it goes.

There is a ton of copper it looks like inside the MSI with the cpu/gpu etc. Most all reviews say very little heat for the power also. It looks like I may be able to put a quad in there, I'll probably undervolt just to be sure heat doesn't become an issue.
