Whats better?

Thread Starter
My dad is looking to build a new computer and just want to know what processor is better. He is looking at a X2 3800+ or a amd 64 4000+ San Diego core. We just wanted some other opinions.
Personaly, Id go with the A64 4000. It will overclock better, and for the time being will be more useable.

The X2 3800+ will perform better in the future and you could overclock it to beat the 4000+. Of course you could always overclock the 4000+..
Not bad at all...

The 3800s can overclock pretty nice because of the 512x2 instead of the 1MBx2 (cache size between the manchester core and the toledo core). 3800s aren't slugs either lol.. How often do you upgrade parts like the cpu?

The 4000+ could probably hit 2.8-9 and the 3800 could hit that(mostlikely with WC) or close to it. IMO the 3800 would be a good chioce, especially if it were paired with some WC.

The manchester doesnt generate as much heat as the todelo so it can overclock a bit. I think SladeSurfer overclocked his 3800+ to 2.8-9 on water cooling. I think the X2 processors have a higher heat threshold too... I can't remember if that was just the todelo core or not.

If your wanting to get it now, and have the best out of it now i would suggest the 4000+ on the stock heatsink with AS5 you can get around 2.7-2.8ghz ihave mine at 2.7ghz and going to upgrade Heatsink soon so i can oc it further, the 3800x2 will get around the same but really is nothing is made for dual core at this moment expect photo editing programs, you really would'nt get the best out of the x2 tell later down the road.It really depends on what your going to use the cpu for. They perform just about the same jsut one is dual core the other isn't. But i would say you could OC the 4000+ further then the x2, (but make sure you get the San diego core if you get the 4000+)
