CPU droop mods

Is the purpose of a droop mod, to have less raising of your vcore in order to achieve a lower temperature and keep the cpu stable under load?

I ask this because when my cpu under load, my vcore drops quite a bit. It seems as though if the voltage didnt drop, and stayed closer to the voltage I have selected, then I could lower my vcore setting and achieve a higher overclock because of lower temps right of the bat.

For instance, if I set the VCORE at 1.52 volts in bios, then when in my OS it reads about 1.47 idle, then droops to 1.41 or lower when stress loaded.
It seems that if it stayed at 1.47 or close to that, I would be able to push more clocks.

I have read that some of the Vcore mods just increase the voltage, but the droop still occurs when loaded. I could get that same effect by just increasing the set voltage in bios.. Rather then doing a soldering mod.

Or am I way off base on what a droop mod is supposed to achieve?

Its supposed to keep the Vcore more stable. I think it lets more current flow to the CPU but im not exactly sure.

But that's a relative term, because I can supply more current to the cpu by upping the setting in bios via a keyboard stroke. In bios, I have plenty of head room to probably enough to fry the cpu with too much voltage... So why bother with a mod if it isnt going to stabilize the droop?

I think it gives it more current without raising the voltage.

mine does that too, I had my cpu at 100% load, and the vcore dropped to 1.47, and when its idle, its at about 1.49

I can up my vcore .1mV more than it is, would that be a good idea, instead of 1.49, it'd be 1.59

Yours seems pretty reasonable at only a .02 drop in voltage. Mine drops almost .1 volts sometimes.

Running that prescott at 1.59 volts is not a good idea. I think the max voltage spec for those processors is 1.55, and even at that voltage it has been said to drastically reduce the life of the cpu. I wont run mine over 1.52volts.

Edit: oops sorry, you have a northy. Never mind that.

I've got my northy at 1.55v now, and it drops to about 1.53, which I like because now I know my cpu's getting its right voltage.

It helps stablize out the vcore under high overclocking. For example, you have all the lights on in your house, and then you turn on your washing machine or something like that, you might see the lights flicker for a few miliseconds. So basically to fix the lights from doing that, you can do a mod, in this case, a vdroop mod. Now take that analogy and stick it into computers. Im doing a droop mod on my mobo because im overclocked to 3.6GHz currently (2.4 stock) and i want to get farther but im suffering from droop. You can raise the vcore in the bios. For example, my CPU needs 1.515v to run stable at 4.0GHz (prescott), but, when i set the bios @ 1.515 it droops on startup down to 1.435v. (multimeter tested) making my computer impossible to boot. If i set the vcore in the bios to 1.535, then it will hurt my processor idleing (due to excessive vcore) but not have as bad of a droop. Sry if this was long, but there are multiple things that lead to vcore drooping. PSU is also a factor, but i tested mine and it idles at 12.35v and under heavy load 12.09v (multimeter tested)

Also, there is no real limit on vcore, if you have phase or really good water, 1.6v+ wont hurt you computer (assuming prescott)
