I have an Idea for a mod and need some help

Hi

I got the Sirus Sat Radio for winning a Longest drive contest the last time I went golfing. The only thing is I have XM in my truck and my wife does not like it's "look". So what I want to do is make it work in one of my computers. I have an old Intel celeron 2.93 Ghz machine that I mainly use as a tv. It has two wd 160 Gb Pata drives and a cd burner/dvd rom. It also has SB Live 5.1 LS for sound. It is powered by a TT 420w P/S. I think I will have to upgrade the PS. But I dont know to what and I have to figure out how to power it. The sound connection is with headphone jack in the line-in on the sound card. I my upgrade the sound card but have not made up my mind yet. If someone has done this already I would like your help, please.

thanks

mike

Take out the battery, what does it say? If it says 12V you can solder it directly to a Molex plug.

XM-Radio on the PC?

Sounds quite possible.

It all depends on how it draws it's power, Do you have all the origonal documentation that came with it?

There would probably be a diagram on how to properly power it. If it runs on 12v, You've got it made, But if it runs on 24V+ your either going to have to make a set of parralel PSU's, Or just get a converter that will convert the wall-jack to the same level as the radio would need for input.

Getting it into the PC, I guess using just line in would be more then enough?

I don't think something that small could run off of 24v. And no, you wouldn't have to have two PSUs in parallel (Remeber, a parralel circuit has common voltage, and a series circuit has common amperage, so parallel would only give you more amps.) You'd only need to connect two Molexes in a series to get your 24V.

Thanks, Can never remember the difference.

But still, Thats exactly what I meant, lol

Yeah, It would have to run off of under 12V wouldn't it since thats all a car battery can give, Correct?

The specs on the radio are:

Power supply 10.8-15.6 Vdc
Fuses 2 (2 amp) fast blow

It has three wires that need to be connected.

Red 12 Vdc
Yellow constant power (car Battery)
black ground

Where do I get constant power from or is this just something I have to live with. (reprograming the Radio)

thanks

mike

One of your wires is the one that keeps ur stations remembered, i think thats the yellow one. The red is the 12+ and the black is the neg. wire

I doubt the constant power uses 12 Vcd..
Correct me if im wrong

Edit : Didnt see what you wrote
