There should be alot of replies coming so ill just say this

mines at 480/1300 right now and i can game for 3hrs + without a hiccup. And im still working my way up. I can bench at 525/1350 . I outscored all but one 6800Ultra overclocked here in 3dmark 05. So... It might depend on what games you'll be playing. Lots of HL2 based games, maybe lean towards the ati. Everything else the gs. just my 2cents

i just got the gto2 but the gs does have shader model 3.0 and the gto2 doesnt. although i think in terms of pure graphics power, once the gto2 is unlocked and overclocked it should beat the gs by a fair margin.
http://www.rage3d.com/reviews/video/nvidia7800gt/?p=6
just the fact that it is benched against 7800gt and gtx means it is likely a step above the 6800gs. also i have heard on this site a few times that the x850xtpe is the fastest agp card available which would put it above a 6800 ultra.

blah blah blah

hehe, the gto2 is great but it will run another 50$ or more vs. the gs. At which point might as well save up another 50$ and wait for newegg to have a sell on a 7800gt.

Also a note to the original poster, dont expect those frame rates on your computer. There setup is much different and faster than yours.

I have no idea how much of a diff. 3d shader makes.

BTW, running the 'test' portion of fear doesnt give a nearly accurate reading of in game FPS. With the same settings as that test , and my cpu is faster, i get about 72-75fps with my card. But in game my lack of ram causes those nice little semi-freezes while textures and lights load throughout the level. Firefights with more than 1 guy, which is always, slows the fps down to 40 or below (even though in test i get 100% above 40fps). ANd multi player mode has to be run with everything on medium minus volumetric lights or the fps is shiet. So those bench's mean nothing to me and shouldnt to you. In regards to fear at least.
