Cut off the molex plug so you have two bare cable ends.

Just connect one end of the fan cable (the black) into the BLACK on the PSU molex and the remaining fan cable into the YELLOW for 12v the RED for 5v and the ORANGE for 3.3v

Obviously as the voltage measured is lower the fan speed will decrease.

As I stated this is a very crued way to check for voltage to be present at the connectors but if you got no multimeter it's your best bet and to avoid embarrasment at the store front.

good luck

BTW : if you are using a fan with LED's in it observe the polarity of the leads
no thanks, I'm just going to return it, I can get a smartpower 500W

Fair enough, I would suggest to see if you fried it prior to return, as they will be able to asertain if incorrectly connected but good luck anyway

Well Now I'm just upset The concert I have been looking forward to going to for months was cancelled, I walkied up to the pc store (3-4km) and had already called and was told that if it didn't work they'd replace it. So I brought it there and they wanted to check to see that it didn't work before they gave me a new one, so the guy tested it on one of there systems and it worked So know the guy gos rambling on about how I should have brought my pc with me and have them do a test for 25$ life crap I'm going to carry my case that far So I now know that it works, But how do I get it to work with my system? I really need to buy a punching bag Sorry for all the melodramatics, I've just set off a Week very badly And I'm more than a little upset

Check the output at the molex connectors for 12v - 3.3v - 5v.

cheers
This is a verry crude way of testing it,,and it can blow a power supply. If i remember right with out a draw on the 5v rail most newer supplies wont respond to this jumpering any way

Ok when ya shorted it out ta may have triped the PSU off internally..This usually clears after a few minutes by unpluging it from the wall try that./

Also those 4 pin connectors are used mainly for Intel rigs and 24 pin main board connectors.Having 2 of them is because boards exspecially server boards not only use a 24 pin ATX connector but the Additional 4 pin plug on th emain board. .

Ok, if the power supply's biggest plug has 24 pins then there should be a 24pin to 20 pin connector, short piece that just eliminates 4 of the pins as your motherboard does not need them or any other 4 pin connectors that it might have. First does the pc work with the old PSU?, if so then disconnect the power, take it out & install the new PSU, connect the 24 pin adapter to the main connector, then connect the 20 pin to your motherboard, if you do that and hit the power switch on your computer with the power cord plugged in it should turn on and the fan would start spinning on the PSU, turn it off and plug in everything that was working before the new PSU, You do not want to connect or disconnect anything while the computer is on. PM me or IM me if you're still confused.
Also if it does not start up try flipping the switch on the PSU and try hitting the power switch again.
