I am sure the z-5500's are great and the best choice for most people, but recently I have started listening to a lot of Choral music (Orff, the Bach Cantatas, Requims, Messiah) and I don't know if those would be the best choice. I don't won't the sub to be over powering. I just need clear reproduction of the sounds from the instruments and the vocals.

I might be wrong, but the z-5500's, as with most computer speakers, seemed geared toward more heavy music with a lot of bass.

Well, even with classical youre going to want some bass, the bass control is nice on this set up as it allows you to control how much thump the sub gives honestly you dont need it but maybe 2-4 notches for classical and the sub wont overpower anything, it also depends on your EQ settings as well.

Get the 5500's, these are very good speakers. They have very good full range reproduction. If at any time the bass is to much it is very easy to turn down. BTW, these sound almost as good as my Bose setup.

Trust me when I say this: the amps on those systems are not good at all. For full dramatic effect of a 5.1 system, you'll want an amp and speakers with a high db. I would recommend a more home theatre setup with a quality amp like an Onkyo. Click here to understand what I mean.

If games are 50% graphics, and 50% sound, you'll want to spend just as much on your sound system as your graphics to get the full effect...if not more.

I've had Onkyo amplifiers since I could buy stereo equipment, and they not only won't let you down, but they'll shock you with their quality. Just trust me on this one.

Well, you mustve had defective speakers because everyone else here agrees that this system is the best bang for your buck, maybe you didnt turn the sub up to full blast and actually get all that 188W of bass?

65w per channel...ok, maybe your EQ settings sucked .

96dB is the best possible sound...these are 93.5dB, thats pretty damn close to spec so i still dont see how you say these can be bad, its got 96khz output as well...
