Yeah, I didn't plan to, but if you check out my new rig I replaced my mobo and card with SLI compatible stuff.

Well... Is SLI worth getting?

Yeah, I'm still on the $400 budget.

I just started thinking about not using SLI (again) because I've seen benchmarks and it seems like there is little or no (or even less) FPS gain unless you use AA/AF.

I would recomend going for SLI. Getting 1 card now then getting another one later. (I'm running 2 6600gt's and scored 7122 in 3dmark05) But cost will rise a little bit. Kinda hard to make up your mind eh? Oh and fps will be better with one card if your comparing 7800 series, against 6600/6800 series in sli. Its just technology. Other than that its fairly consistant on a 70-80% increase in performance.

ALL of these have been standard features of ATI cards since like the 9800! LOL! Except SM3, which really is no big deal IMO.

Here's some Ideas. Look around however, as deals can be found all over. Like e-bay or pricewatch.com. This case is a pretty good value, but When upgrading to sli, the power supply should be upgraded. This is also assuming you have hard drives.

Another option would be to buy good parts, a few at a time. It will take longer to get your rig, but in the end, you will have a better system, and you'll allow yourself the time to find the "hard to pass up" deals. Like putting together a All mediocor system now, or say buying a good mobo, cpu, ram now, then saving. Just an Idea.

(I just realized I mean avivo.)

Actually HDR, Pixel Shader 3.0, DX9c, and avivo are all new to ATI in the new X1(3/6/8)00 line.

Also DUNC4N, that's like $100 over my budget.

If I'm not mistaken there are motherboards that support both PCI Express x16 and AGP but I'm not sure if they are SLI as whell...

Edit: I also have been looking into this Patriot Signature Series 2 x 512MB RAM it's $84.00 but it has a $20.00 Mail-In-Rebate
