Don't feel like torturing my comp tonight if it doesn't allow me to keep learning. Can you help me a bit with the RAM now? lol I posted the memory and speed pics already

*Edit* yes I did

i can help you some, but im not a master ram timer (yet) what kind of ram do you have? (speed mostly) those screenshots are now old (or should be) because you got back to 166fsb (ram speeds are based of of the fsb.... fsb times 2 equals ram speed if your not using a divider) so your ram should probably be running at 333mhz right now. thats not bad, but not fast either. listen i g2g to bed, i have class ina few hours, read this and this to help get the basic ideas of ram down, and then fill out your user profile, so then people can help you easier (its in the user cp section somewhere, which is top left of the page you are now on). i'll be back tommorow, and a bunch more people way smarter than me too. we'll get you running cs way better...

Okay you got a bit of headroom there.

First off you need to set the fsb:ram RATIO to 1:1 your BIOS may show it as AUTO or 3:3/4:4/5:5 etc don't select SPD as this will revert back to the timmings the manufacturer sets on the modules themselves. This means your memory will run at the same speed as your fsb ie; fsb=166MHz RAM speed=166MHz

You then need to change your timmings to from top to bottom 2-3-3-6 and see how you go.

Voltage for the RAM may need to be lifted to 2.7v

cheers

Ok, thanks for the info there. I just upped my FSB to 200 and lowered my multi to 10, so I have a steady 2 ghz now not going any farther than that though.

Set the RAM to 200 now I guess, but should I still set the RAM timings to what you said though?

hhmm cpu-z shows it as PC3200 DDR400. if you are now at 200MHz fsb you can try lowering the timmings to the mentioned 2-3-3-6 but being a non descript make you will find you will have to run them at the rated speed of 2.5-4-4-8 to keep stability.

you just got to test it all out as you go. There is no quick solution.

so your at 200fsb now, that should mean that your at 400mhz on the ram unless you went with the 1-1 divider. if your not running into stability problems, then id just stick with the stock timings, given that your not really running trying to OC to much, mostly their just messed with to get stability with crazy OCs. oh and on the torture test, there are a bunch (can be run fo days without it ending) but if you get no errors after an hour or so, then your good.

Yea, I got to the second 500000 at 10 which was over an hour in, so it's all good.

Ok I found a problem with the labelling of the RAM for my brother's computer and mine. I switched the RAM around so that he now has his proper 1GB of PC3200 and I have my 512 of PC2700. Here are some new pics.

I'm guessing I should just not fool with my RAM at all since it's Generic and kind of old, but I would really appreciate some info on pushing my graphics card. I heard somewhere that it's pretty easy to get a 9800 pro (which I have) to run at 9800xt.

SpecTek isn't that great but it will do you ok.
Like said, up to 2,8, it's safe and set your RAM @ 333, you should get a little more out of the vdimm increase.
To be sure it's stable use memtest86 and first use the below then test fully when your confident of your OC.

A quick test complements of ncsa
When you boot to memtest it auto starts - pressing C 1 3 x <enter> <enter> starts to loop the test where x is the test number.

Once you have done this it will only loop that test until reset or configured for another test.

Tests 5 & 6 are quicker but 8 is more accurate once you start to settle down the OC and the timings / Vdimm.
