[COMPLETED]The Caliga Project:Update 02-15-2010 - Page 3

Actually I am striving to keep the project simple and "refined" rather than overdone. So I won't be going crazy with woofty doofty profiles. And I chose to use Oak ply rather than veneer this time to cut out many hours of labor that would entail.

Spent some time on the phone this morning with a local glazier and ordered the bronze tempered glass doors. There is a lot more to glass than I thought..being a wood guy. I'll be looking into glass as a building medium.

Day has been pretty well shot doing the usual stuff. Router bit should arrive tomorrow. Then I'll be able to get the side panels started.

The side panels are the key element as they will control the location of everything and are pretty much the foundation.

I routed some moldings last night and am gluing up stuff today. Pretty soon I'll be laying out for all the bazillion biscuit slots. Stay tuned I have been taking pics and vids as I go along.

Panel cutter. Incredibly handy to have when sizing shelving.

The router bit I was wating for.

Inexpensive speed controller for the router. Keeps from tearing out and burning the wood...

Vacuum fence sucks up the mung and allows me to jack the bit higher since the bearing is out of the picture.

The subtle profile of the front molding.

Vid to follow.

Little update

I decided the "B" side of the Oak Ply just isn't good enough to look at. I was hoping that by the time I got the shelves and all laid out it would hide the flaws but I didn't get that lucky.

So I ordered a sheet of veneer.

Still gluing and clamping trim. I'll be making some sample stain blocks to send Caliga4221 so I can get this stuff sealed up. Humidity here is always an issue.
