It was in a sense acting as a welder. It basically arced when it came in contact with something with current running through it. Hints the burn marks on the clip. I should have taken a pic of the clip and where it was on the card, but I didn't think of that until hours later. Bigger concern was to remove it before anymore damage was caused.

I understand now. Well, I'm glad your video card and motherboard are still working in working order. What component did the fan clip touch on your video card? Just imagine if it did that to a metal clip, what it would do to a finger if you touched it by accident!

A human finger have ton times bigger resistance than a metal clip. Though there might be a big possibility that you will be shocked but not to the extent that you will get burnt like that metal clip in that picture

That isn't something I'd like to test, that metal clip looks like a flame has been held under it. Anyway, glad your hardware is still in working order.

If you direct the airflow of the heatsink towards the rear exhaust fan, the fan near the RAM slots should be the push fan and the fan near the rear exhaust fan should be the pull fan.

  4. Read my guide (1st link in sig) it should help to answer this and many other questions you might have about Air Cooling in regards to CPU Coolers, fans, controllers, fan mounting, dust filters and a ton of other useful info...give it a good read

The dimension chart on the 1st post should help you, granted that you have a ruler handy.

Basically from center of CPU to RAM you need the following clearance:

Bottom to Top config: 65mm
Front to Back w/25mm fan: 62mm
Front to Back w/38mm fan: 75mm

Suggestion to add the above info to the front page under the dimension chart as well to help people figure it out for themselves
