Gigabyte vs ABIT

Thread Starter
Well I had ordered a KU8 ULi board from abit in socket 754 but it was on back order. Well rather than wait I switched to a Gigabyte K8U Uli... The gigabyte has 3 ram banks and the abit has 2... Looks like the only difference. I am just looking for some input on this board. Anyone own it?

Only input I can give is that I have owned 1 Gigabyte board. It lasted for a month........yup one month. I still have to RMA it back to them, you may have better luck but it didnt work out for me.

Well that makes me feel better.... Should I just sell it for something else then?

? Chipp Gigabyte has been around for quite a long time, I'm not sure how new your thinking but they were around (that I know of) before skt A cpus. I love the 1 gigbyte board I have, it is a skt A mobo with a via chipset, but even so it let me overclock 400mhz over stock

And don't get a ULI chipset mobo, not if you want to overclock at all. IMO, it will be even worse then a VIA chipset, and there is no reason to get one unless your on extreme budget.

Oh, btw, Abit is almost always better, even though IMO Gigabyte is still pretty good.

My apologies then. I guess I was misinformed.

Beaverdam uses nothing but gigbyte boards, and I know some people who are the same way.

Some people love them, some people hate them.

If someone asked me to get abit or gigabyte (same board pretty much) I'd say the abit just because of their known well overclocking and stability.

I dont think you made a bad choice though, and I heard that the ULi chipsets overclocked like crazy. Adas said they dont so maybe I'm wrong, but I swear that I saw that they hit over 300FSB.

I just need to get the PC up and don't have time to wait for a backorder ABIT. They had the gigabyte in stock and it was the same price. As far as the ULi chipset I am not sure where people are getting that they are not good OC'ers because I haven't really been able to find ANY info on them...So I guess I will be a guinny pig for them. Couldn't be any worse than the ASUS A7N8x deluxe I had. That board would crap out on most any OC I gave it...

On the more postitve side my Gigabyte board did over clock well in that month. Perhaps I just got a dud, I was happy with it till it died. Im gonna RMA it soon and probably give it another try. I must say though price for features it was definintaly a good deal.
