Hey how about a x800gto2 by sapphire, and modding over to an x850xtpe how about that for saving money?
I didnt think of that, but YES, that would be a great idea. AFAIK they have a 100% unlock rate.

well for a graphics card I picked out the evga 7800gt, but I saw the gto2 and was like omg what a deal, so I think I'll buy it when the time comes, and mod it to an 850xtpe, since I hear it has a 100%unlock rate
lol I was typing this out before you posted orion

I might just get me an opteron, but can someone give me the deal with them, what does cabne and cabye and cabge mean, and what's the better of the opterons, etc, etc. what's so special about them other than they are great overclockers?

Yep, I think you will be happy with either but the 7800GT is a bit faster and has SM3 support so games that support that (few now, but SM3 will be the norm sooner or later) will look ALOT better with nVidia 6 or 7 series cards.

EDIT/// OFFTOPIC but DUDE you're name is Josh Steele? thats so weird, I have two friends and one's named Josh and the other's last name is Steele and they hate eachother atm LOL!

Also what's that in your sig? Are you upgrading your system AND getting a college one? BTW Antec P180 is THE BEST case ever, im getting that one, my dad's getting me a comp next week too!

nah that was when I was picking out parts...and that's what I come up with, it was just the case/pc with no cd drives, I was going to use the current ones I have now. and yes the p180 is awesome, I love the way it looks, its not gaudy or flashy, yet when you see it your like "wow". My brother doesn't know this, but when I get done with this machine(I plan to add some more ram and a new graphics card) I'm giving this thing to him : P so I need a whole new system.. heck I even thought about giving him the mouse and keyboard and buying me a g5 and a g15

I have the G5, in two words, DO IT! I love mine and so does pandapimp (he saw mine and bought one too!)

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but so far you plan to get everything I linked to, plus the Antec P180 as a case and the CD drive I linked to later? If so that will be one hell of a computer, that CPU/MOBO combo along with DDR500 will overclock quite well, pandapimp and I were able to get his 3800+ X2 up to either 333x8=2.664GHz or 270x10=2.700GHz completely stable, oh yeah and if you plan to upgrade the CPU cooling, get this for sure http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106061 its silent, relatively cheap and cools VERY well, as far as I remember, the 3800+ X2 we were cooling with this thing idled at 28c and loaded at 36c at 100% load on both cores and the ambient was 26.7c!

Do 2x1G RAM and enjoy it
On the HD(s). Check the Hard Drives area for the members benchmarks. There are some good pairs there that work very well in RAID0.

IMO an X2 since multi threaded games are coming out starting in Febuary 2006 (Unreal 3 engine, UT2k7 and Huxley) so those will get a big boost with dual core CPUs and then from there pretty much everything should be multithreaded by the end of '06 most likely

Kind of a tough time to use the word "futureproof" because we're right around the corning from several changes. Hard to say if Crossfire or SLI will be worth it in this revision, whether DDR2 will make much difference, whether smaller transistor sizes will up core speeds much, whether dual core cpus will catch on before dual processors do,etc. If it were me, I'd grab an Opteron or 3700 and a cheap motherboard. That combo will kick just as much butt as more expensive setups and will get you through these times with flying colors. If/when the market shows what these new technologies offer, you can sell what you got and not lose much at all and buy a more expensive system. I just think it's a tough time to build a "high end" system at the present time. Maybe get your water kit,so you can have time to play around with it because it'll carry with you to your newer systems down the road.
