... So? Whats the point? He can use them anyways.. It runs on x16 bus's but only at the speed of x8..

My point is why invest in a technology that offers little at the moment and by the time it does, it'll be replaced already.

Well the thing is, I'm really not spending one cent on this.

The CPU and Mobo are taken care up from my parents and the vid card is coming from my girlfriend by doing a website for her dad. So all of this stuff is free.

I am well aware there will be in advances, that's just technology, but if everyone thought that something newer would be out that was better, there would be no consumers to buy this stuff.

What it boils down to is, I got $600 to play with a vid card, I'd rather spend it on something i would otherwise not buy, like (2) 7800GT SLi cards cause $600 is dumb to spend my own money on.

Also, I have 480W Power Supply, I've seen that 500W should be optimal for running an SLi set-up, so i figure 480W shouldnt bottleneck it much

That's exactly my point though...SLI is an attempt in futureproofing your system, but it's not maximizing your performance per dollar now or in the future. You're better off buying a nonSLI mb and stacking that savings onto buying 1 superior card, instead of 2 lesser cards and an SLI mb. If you don't believe that, then read some benchmarks on the games that you play.

For the record. He's not buying anything soon afterwords. And 7800GT SLI beats 7800GTX and X1800XT.

I'll find a benchmark for the X1800XT

EDIT: Jori, you found the one i was looking at earlier

also thats the one with the nVidia 7800GT, the eVGa card is overcloked 10% more than the other 7800GTs so the marks will be a little bit higher
