K, first I must say, like everyone this is BS blah blah blah.
Then I must say that there HAVE been cases in America with MMORPG deaths. I did a report on it for school two or years ago about EverQuest. I will admit I was addicted.
I would play 4-6 after school, neglecting homework just to play. During summer I would usually play 14-16 hours per day, though the longest I even played at one sitting was 26 hours. I will also say though, that I don't regret a minute of it...Yea, I neglected hanging out with friends etc, but it was honestly some of the happiest times of my life....Sad, I know, but anyone who is/was addicted to EQ knows how amazing of a feeling it is to accomplish things in that game.
Now I play WoW, which personally I don't find at all addicting. I would have quit weeks ago if my friends hadn't urged me to keep playing it.
The case of death by EverQuest I recall most was a mild skitzophrenic (sp??), 27ish year old guy who put a shotgun to his head after his EQ wife broke up with him. Like most of the other cases his mother sued Sony, and I believe lost the lawsuit, as it should be.
Personally my parents saw that it was just a phase and told me that "It's your summer, spend it how you like". So I did. My mom was even so nice as to supply me with a 12 pack of mountain dew ever couple days.
And that's why I love my parents so much...
