Sad. Very sad.

I can't see how parents can blame the video game industry when it is they who are not taking the responsibility for their children. They shouldn't have to babysit other people's children.

All of this boils down to parenting. Asians and Americans have different parenting techniques. I am an Asian myself. My parents were born in China and lived in some of the harshest conditions during Mao Zedong. There, it pull your own weight or die. They learned that family ties, honor and hard work were that kept you alive.
These traditions are still passed down. I, and many other Asians I know, are expected to continue them. This is why you see Asians excel in certain areas(generalization) such as acedemics or sports. This is because we want to honor the family. We are pushed by our parents unbelievably hard(not saying non-Asians aren't).
Alright, finally, getting to my point. Video-gaming is a pleasure, which should be done after work. If I try to just game all day, I know I will be yelled at, because I am not "pulling my own weight". These parents obviously should have monitored their child's playing and thought process more carefully, but the fact is, they are ashamed that they're child died, however he died, weather from gaming or suicide.
I guess my point here, is don't just bash just because, but know why, and know the background behind it. My reason to bash the suing is bad parenthood, from the Chinese standpoint.

^Agreed. However, I think the game had nothing to do with it. I think he killed himself because of the whole honor the family thing and he thought he wasn't succeeding (dishonoring).

This kid had problems, WoW or not. I am going to say that I lost 2 friends to WoW, and I know a few others who threw away their entire future for WoW. This one guy dropped out of college, quit his job, slept 3 hours per night and spent the rest of his 21 hours per day playing WoW. I don't think the game is directly responsible for the deaths...thats bad parenting. But I do think there should be some kind of investigation into WoW because its far more addicting than the average PC game. I can play other RPGs without a prob, and know others who can as well. I stay away from WoW because of what I've seen it do to people and I don't want to end up losing my future just to play a game. People say they can control it, but a lot of people end up not being able to once they get addicted, and WoW is perhaps the most addicting game to ever be released on PC. I don't know why though....

The case of death by EverQuest I recall most was a mild skitzophrenic (sp??), 27ish year old guy who put a shotgun to his head after his EQ wife broke up with him.
I think the wife was a 68 year old guy LOL

Can't believe people not only play that game but also pay for it monthly. I mean who can justify playing an online game and using elfs as main characters and buying some spells to wonder around in a colour full rainbow imaginary video game land and fight off demented looking like creatures who look like a bunch of birth defects after exposure to some radioactive waste?

I nominate this post for "Best post of the year award"...

Truthfully, I think anyone who plays WoW is stupid enough to jump off a cliff and expect to fly...
