Hi folks, here is my problem. I loose my Internet connection and I have to unplug my cable modem shut down my computer plug the modem in wait a couple of minutes and power back up, sometimes it work. The lights are on so the singnal coming into my house is ok. It seems to be a problem with I setting or something with my computer? Also when it went dead I had to uninstall fire fox and use Internet explorer, but after an hour it also went dead.

Does anyone have any ideas of what this could be? Or a suggestion on a fix?

thanks for any help.

vF

P.S. this started when i used a router so i could have internet on a 2nd computer. when i started to have this problem i removed that router and the internet worked fine for a couple of hours.

hmm it probly is a setting in the computer, what kind of router do you have? go to their support site or something, and follow the directions to hook it up.

Make sure you don't have your ether net cards to let Windows shut it off to conserve power.

Set it to always on in the DEVICE MANAGER.

Sounds like you need to reset the modem, look for some little white button or something that you have to push in with a pencil, and everything should work just fine again.

wait wait wait... your browsing along and everythings fine then you get disconnected and cant load web pages anymore... is this right? if this is what happens, what happens to the lights on the modem? do any of them go out? If they are out when your having trouble that does indicate a signal problem. I can help ya figure this out but i need to know what modem you have? make and model.

edit: oh and what ISP is it?

Hi, no all the lights are on. I did find the probelm tho.....the netgear router i was using was the problem. can you buy a hub that you can just plug two computers in to share one line without any firewalls, and will not messup myconections and downloads.

thanks again.

No you can not use a hub. it has to be a router. it has to router the traffic. if u use a hub only one machine will pull an IP from the mdm. I do suspect it Was the router giving you issues however how did you find out? check netgear and see if there are any firmware updates.

I found the problem by disconnecting the router and plugging my cable modem directly into my computer and all works normal again. My soul seek runs good again the Internet is always there.
However I would really like to get this to work so that I can have Internet connection on my 2nd computer for the kids.
I use a Netgear MR814v2 router, I wondering if I can set this so that the firewall is off? Does anyone here use this router?

thanks

vF
