If Grunion doesn't think we'll get in trouble - I don't see why not.

I'm #7 on AMd... (really 5 if you take the first couple dude's out - which shouldn't be on there)...

I'd definitely leave AMD if we had an OCN Team....maybe if we show the other mods just how many point's we're really pulling - we'll do the CPU conversion equation - maybe it will impress them enough to make it official...

Hey rico - that's in the app info file...edit it. make sure you kill boinc manager. (prefferably in task manager)

ok, edit app_info.xml in C:/Programdata/BOINC/projects/boinc.thesonntags.com_collatz/

IT WILL LOOK LIKE THIS

HERE - edit the entries - the cmd n2 is supposed to do it - but I've never gotten it to work on a single GPU..(ie 1 wu per gpu is all I've gotten to work)......

Hey's guys, check this out:

I was looking all over OCN to find info on what Grunion was talking about using both brands on Win 7 (not that I can afford that with things failing left and right on the HTPC)...

Best I found was a thread on using Physx with ATI...

So somehow I ended up on the BOINC CUDA/CAL FAQ.....they say read this, check these links out etc...

Well about 3/4 of the way down - I see a thing about dummy plugs...

And guess where they linked to for the "Solder free method"????

THat's right folks.... OCN!!!!
http://boincfaq.mundayweb.com/index....age=1&view=471

(SEE below)
OK, so now I disabled SLI and BOINC only recognizes one video card. What is up with that then?
Some people report that in order to have both video cards recognized and be able to use them, you can try to extend your desktop over all your videocards; if that doesn't work you need to have a monitor attached to each video card, or add a VGA dummy (requires soldering) to the VGA outlet of the other video card(s). This how-to needs no soldering.

Cool...we should +1 that dude for helping others who now help us (and others)....

EDIT - it was Cyberdruid who made the thread - figures!!!! My waterfall made by him should be installed in the next couple weeks

Making some headway with multi-gpu crunching. Used <cmdline>n2</cmdline> edit to the app_info.xml, thanks to Gill.. Unfortunitly I believe this is for telling the app how many gpus you want to use b/c it doesn't work with adding more work units when you only have (1) gpu.

Made (2) dummy plugs and installed my 4850 X2 along with my 5850.

So far success, first tried (1) dummy plug and I'm able to work on (2) wu with two gpus (1) 4850 + (1) 5850. Tried (2) dummy plugs on my 4850 X2 and when I enable the 3rd monitor to "extended mode" in CCC, my system locks up. Not sure if the dummy plug needs to be redone or something else.

Hey Rico....ok, so the N2 thing doesn't work for single GPU's - I think we're coming to that conclusion (readme garbage....)

As to what's going on now?? Let's assume a couple things:

1.)because the N2 thing is garbage - let's assume that line has no bearing on how it's really handled by BOINC.
2.)Because of 1, let's assume that BOINC manager is handling it.

With those assumptions, let's say that BOINC manager is the one reading the two cards - and is splitting the two projects to work the 1 wu each (no dummy plug needed??).

So let's try another tweak on the app info?? I don't see anywhere else we could do it in the readme - we're all following that..

But.....Where yours and mine differ - is mine's a crossfired 4770 - so I'm all on one project and it's multiple wu's on that project - so I can't tell if it's the N2 plus that, or BOINC manager)...

Mine does not say device 1 or 0 like yours.... is that because yours are not crossfired? How is Vista handling the different cards?

While I was looking up to see if I could find an answer, I ran across this goodie bag of a paper from the folks over at RPI running the show:
http://wcl.cs.rpi.edu/papers/ppam2009.pdf

That paper is like crack for people like us! I Read portions, but want to finish the whole thing..

Unfortunately, that is the case. The "n2" in <cmdline>n2</cmdline> has no effect on either making the programs work on 2 or more wus at a time or making the program use 2 or more gpus. I removed the "n2" (<cmdline></cmdline>), returning the app file back to it's original state. Left my "dummy plug" plugged in, reset my projects, turned off and back on Boinc. Work loads reappear and start working on (2) wu with my (2) gpus.

On a brighter note, I'm a millionaire!
