Make sure you have it configured correctly for best results.
In your BOINC client, go to preferences and under the "processor usage" tab, untick:
While computer is on batteries
While computer is in use
Use GPU while computer is in use
Then set as follows:
Only after computer has been idle for = 5 minute
While processor usage is less then = 3 percent
Every day between hours off = 00:00 and 00:00 (set as needed, or leave equal)
Day of week override = set as needed or leave unticked
As for "Other options", set them however you like to suit the amount of prcoessor usage you want to use and how long before switching from one application/project to another.
Now go to the "disk and memory usage" tab, and in the lower half of the tab, make sure you set memory usage correctly when the computer is in use, so the BOINC client doesn't use/reserve too much of your memory.
