Best 80mm fan [?]

Thread Starter
Well...I was holding off on buying some Thermaltake Silentcats, then every store online went outta stock....Great!....

So anyone have suggestions for the highest CFM 80mm fan...or a 90 with an adapter...

Highest CFM, noise isn't a factor...must be 80mm or have an adapter to fit 80mm...

Vantec Tornado probably has the highest CFM for an 80mm fan.

Silverstone fm82 kills them all !!!!

Comes with the little bay controller, goes from quiet to 75cfm. Has 92mm fan blades and the little slited sides like the silent cats.

I also have 2 silent cats, i put 1 in another comp. They are really great, quiet and hell. Push lots of air, i use mine as the HSF and the Silverstone as the exhaust. Between the 2 id use the silverstone if you only have a 80mm opening, i know there is the adapter with the silent cat, but the SS pushes more air on high.

Hope that helps u decide.

i'll agree with what. i just got one, and it lowered my temps(cpu) by like 5c idle and 8load. plus its adjustable and quieter than the one on the volcano. its worth the price.

I dont have any open 3.5" bays, can those fans just run full power when I plug em into molex? Or is there a pci adapter that comes with it too?

yes you can run them without the controller, but be aware, they are relativly loud at full speed (quieter thanmost 72.5cfm fans... at 4000rpm, its 40dba.....) unfortunately there is no PCI slot controller, but its an awesome fan (they also make a normal 80mm fan version that fits in normal spots)

How do you not have any of the small slots open?!

Ditch the floppy drive, if yoiu need it for a bios update just plug it back in later. You never know how wonderful a quiet computer is until you hear one and gain your sanity back from the world of more than 30db.

Yea, I agree get the Silverstone FM82, you'll be alot happier with that one than you will be with the Vantec. Get this fan controller, it takes up one 5.25" Bay rather than a 3.5" bay.
