ok, to go along with all the other upgrades i am saving for, i'm going to want to OC my VGA too.

ATI Tray Tools Benchmark results.
Benchmark finished at 23 Nov 2005 12:03
Device Radeon X700 Pro [5E4B]
GPU : 425.25
MEM : 432.00
Final Score = 3559.33

Benchmark details:
Rendering Pass - Rendered Frames

2 - 3067
3 - 2296
4 - 2099
5 - 1686
6 - 1519
7 - 1394
8 - 1185
9 - 724

I was wondering is the ATI Silencer 1 Rev. 2 the best air cooling i can get for my X700PRO? Also how far could I push this thing stock and with a new cooler?

I have the ATI Silencer 5 rev. 2 (the difference between the 1 and 5 is compatibility for different cards) and I absolutely love mine, my X800XL OCed to 425/500 idles at 28c and loads 55c!

I would have a look at the zalman vf700-cu it would do the job just nicely. The question how far can you overclock it, only you can tell us what it overclocks to, all cards are different.

The Zalman VF700 Cu is also a well respected cooler that is listed as compatible with the X700 Pro.

I slide them all the way over in ATI Tray Tools and these are the max they go...

core speed: 637

Memory speed: 648

The ATI Silencer 5 is a very good cooler - I have one on my X850. However, it does not fit the X700s to my knowledge (at least the PCI-E ones - don't know which you have). You would need the ATI Silencer 1 or the aforementioned Zalman VF-700.

Sorry to post in such an abondoned topic, but I had a question directly related to this.

I have a x700Pro AGP and noticed that the ATI silencers only seem to cover x700 Pci-e. Does this mean my only choice is to go with the zalman vf700-cu ???? And will this also cool the ram as the ATI silencer does?

The Zalman comes with stick on RAMsinks, and the copper fins cover those. All in all, that's a very solid cooler. You could always e-mail Arctic Cooling, but when I did that, it took over two months to get a reply (and the reply was worthless!)
