Do I need 2gb now?

Argh, my pc keeps eating away my wallet. My next upgrade that I seem to actually "need" is another gig of ram.

I came to this conclusion while playing black and white 2, as it seems to be a memory hog with the huge enviroments and thousands of small models. I really didn't want to have to spend 150 bucks more on my pc , but it seems like this game needs it pretty bad, if I run task manager during the middle of game play my PF usage is at 1.06 gigabytes, which doesn't make sense, bc I have 1024mb .

Before I take the plunge and get another set of OCZ Plat Rev. 2 2x512mb sticks, the same as what I have now. I have 2 major concerns...

1. Will games like NFS: Most Wanted, Quake 4, CoD2, HL2, BW2, Age III, and FEAR take advantage of more memory? If you could list specifically which games or types of games would or wouldn't, then that would be great. I am most interested in FEAR and NFS: Most Wanted currently.

2. Is 2gb with lower clock speeds better than 1gb with higher clockspeeds?

3. Will getting another set of ram like one I currently have now be the best choice? If not what do you suggest I do?

1. yes you will see a big differance. 2. 2gig will be better textures and effects. 3 get the same because you won't have any timming differances.

Yeah I would say it's worth it for sure. One other game that comes to mind that could really use it is BF2 on all highest settings.

So then the added memory makes up for any loss in performance from going from 2 to 4 sticks, and a 1t to 2t command rate?
The drop to a 2T is a very small reduction in overall speed of only a few %.
The more textures that are cashed in the RAM the less the game has to revert to the HD for the information.
BTW. With a single C:/Root HD that are "large in volume" a dual partition will improve performance slightly.
Examp; Single 120G HD set to about a 60/60G split will put the OS/Progs/Games/etc... on the fastest part of the HD. Also, a program like/simular to, Nortons Speed Disk will locate the swap file to the fastest available area of the HD improving swap times, if needed. But of course, the more RAM you have the less dependant you are on the Swap File.

A year ago I would have thought it was ludacris to spend 200+ dollars on a video card and another 150+ to not get stutters in my game. Now I already want a 7800.

If you plan on upgrading your video card to a 512mb, I would say 1 gig of ram is enough I know how you feel, OCing is like a very addictive drug, you always want more!

Do you mean 1.8ghz? Argh Splat00n you just kicked my wallet in the crotch. I think I'll get the 1gb over a new monitor for Christmas, but my parents won't understand it. It will take me awhile to talk them into putting more money to my Kick ass rig. -You might think this computer doesn't totally rule, But to 99.9% of people it does.

Come'on think about, I've been playing (as have most of you) with xbox 360 graphics for almost a year now . Most dumb fuds who camped out for their 360 ended up spending 50 dollars for Xbox Live and 50 dollars for a wireless controller and 60 dollars for CoD2. It costs me nothing to play online, easy to play with friends, CoD2 costs 25 dollars at BB. Most of these 360 owners have never played HL2 and just spent 60 bucks on crappy Quake IV thinking that it awesome.

That was kind of random, but it helps me justify 150 dollars for ram .

I decided to sell my current ram and get 2x1gb sticks of something. It's in the For Sale section if you want it.
