edit: power a webserver?

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...cname=bph06796

That's the computer I want to use for a web server with PHP and MySQL.

1.1 GHz Celeron
512 MB PC100 RAM
Ultra ATA 100 hard drive (7200 RPM)

Could that handle a lot of requests? Also, could it handle XP Pro?

Uh, I wouldn't go that route. You will have problems if you get alot of requests, XP Will have troubles etc.

Is it because of the CPU? This is a working computer and I don't want it to go completely to waste.

seeing as your gona be running this from home its never gona be able to handkle alot of request because you will be running it from a standard cable connection witch is no were near as fast as the connections real servers use

I'll be running it from college. They provide high speed to every dorm. That isn't standard cable, is it? My high school has connections that let me download 2MB/s, and that is just one out of hundreds.

Most older server's were under 1ghz, whats more important is the memory capacity 512meg will hold it back most of my servers have a min of 2gb of memory, also use a server base operating system, WinNT, 2000, lunix.

Well, I hate to see this go to waste... maybe I'll rebuild it and sell it to someone as an office processor. It only has 64MB ram right now.... linux should handle that.

Linux will work good on it for an office rig.

standard cable is between 3-4mbp's and that does not matter its all about upload speed witch isnt that great on a 4mbps line that i have so im assuming it would be half that on a 2mbps line

I think a 1.1 intel proc could handle it with 512mb. I'm not going to have a lot of hits; my bottleneck will be in the connection.
