My First AMD Rig *Suggestions*

Thread Starter
yeah... the title is correct... i've owned about 5 Pentium computers, and thought i might as well try a AMD rig and see how much i like it.... i've been looking around, and can't come to a very solid conclusion.

1. Video Card. i got a 6600 256meg sli video card *gift*
so i was thinking about just buying another one to utilize sli.

2. Case. i was thinking about just buying a regular case and moddin' it like no tomorrow.

3. Mobo. LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert

4. Processor. AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA4400CDBOX

5. PSU. OCZ PowerStream OCZ520ADJSLI ATX, BTX, SATA, P4 and EPS12V 520W Power Supply

6. Mem. OCZ Gold Series 2GB (4 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory

if anyone has any suggestions especially on the memory...

The expert SLI-DR looks like its jsut for huge vid cards like the 7800 ultra, to give them more breathing room.

Get a standard SLI-D or DR, in my opinion.

1- a great choice if you have one already, the two will tear it up
2 - just make sure you get something big enough to ram all your junk in, with all of the goodies I (now) want to pack inside I may run out of space, thinking about building a custom case...
3 - what can I say, this board screams
4 -what can I say, this proc screams, I've had to 2.9 on 1.55vcore around 2.85 fairly stable
5 - as long as it has the eps connector and 2 pci express connectors you're set
6 - don't get 4 x 512 if your planing to over clock, yes this board supports 4 dimms at 1t but you havce to disable the option at like 210 htt so there is really no point to it, get the lowest timed matched pair you can in either 2 x 512 or 2 x 1024 and turn'em up! You can check my scores in the benchmark section to see what a setup similar to yours will do...

Not true at all. It supports 1T timings with 4 sticks of memory. They also fixed a bunch of issues with previous boards, like the 3.3 volt memory jumper.

yeah, I know it supports 4xdimm at 1t but with the shipping bios and the last revision it still craps out at low htt (210) so its only really useful if you have an fx and phase change and can crank the multi lol, or of course if he doesnt plan on overclocking, but then why would he want a dfi and be on these forums?

I'm just saying, there are plenty of reasons to get that board. I realize that those 1T timings don't apply to him, but it's still awesome. Plus the socket is shifted so the standard HS doesn't blow hot air on your memory.

any time, this is my first amd rig and I am not disappointed, although I did have to wait for FOREVER for this board to be released

@ chechenepiphany - hey dude I wasn't trying to get pushy, just trying to let the guy know about the limitation of the 4xdimm @ 1t command rate was all, sorry if I came off the wrong way (i'm socially retarded)
