That's too bad

My i5 needs the VTT to reach high clocks. I have it set to 1.4v for 24/7 use at 4.3ghz and I bump it up to 1.425v when benching around 4.6ghz.

I just cleaned up the members list. Again, the Core i7 920 is a separate platform! Stop filling out the form if you can't even read Socket 1156!

Isn't that too high for 24/7 use?

That depends too much on what kind of overclock you're going for. If you're going for 4ghz, you'll want at least DDR3-1600 capable ram. If you're going for 3.6ghz, you'll want at least DDR3-1333 ram. If you're going for less than 3.6ghz, you'll want DDR3-1066.

Other than making sure the ram doesn't limit your cpu overclock, you'll be fine. Search Tomshardware for their article they did on comparing DDR3 ram and you'll see that faster ram makes almost no difference in most real-world apps.

I would say the following RAM kits are the "best" for Socket 1156:

- Corsair Dominator:
Very popular, due to quality and price, what I mean by price is that it's quite expensive ($150+). However the quality is excellent, along with their timings.

- Mushkin Enhanced Blackline/Redline:
Excellent quality, I would rate Mushkin as a "underdog" company, not a lot of people heard of Mushkin. Blackline are their most popular line of RAM, good timings and quality too, worth their "small premium" over others.

Their Redline however are their flagship product, due to their quality and timings, which are very low, lower than some Corsairs Dominators. Although their prices for the Redline series are about the same for Corsair Dominators.

- G.SKILL Trident:
Perhaps the best "bang for the buck" RAM kit out there, good quality and popular among computer hobbyists, good timings too, these can be found for about ~$110 USD.

- OCZ Platinum:
Yet, another best "bang for the buck" good quality, very popular and good timings, can't go wrong with OCZ RAM.

Those RAM kits is what I would have used in my own system, and recommend them to others too. Yes, I know there are more RAM kits out there but this is my personal preferences.
