looking good! I don't think you need water until you find out the highest the chip can go.

I've still got another 7-8 degrees of breathing room I think.

If I can get 4GHz stable I'll be happy though. When I got my i5 I was fully expecting to not hit 4GHz at reasonable voltage.

The best part is that not only has my i5 750 seemingly hit 4GHz at less voltage than my e8400(with its freaking 1.30V VID), the H50 is actually quieter than my HDT-S1283 + fan!

I'm actually fully expecting my chip to get to 4.0! That's why I went back and exchanged for the P55 FTW. I'm going to try and get it with a Zalman CNPS 10x Extreme, if that fails though I might have to go the H50 route!

Why the Zalman?

You could go with a Megahalems for $5 less and it would probably give you an 8 degree improvement under load.

I got the Zalman on sale for $50! Plus with the reviews I've seen, it wouln't be nearly as off from the Mega as you seem to think. Unless you see an example I haven't?

The vast majority of reviews you see aren't going to be done right.

Neither of those reviews are done right, both CPUs aren't generating very much heat at those settings.

And when you see this:

It generally means everything you just read is biased, and that the review site wants more free stuff.

You can make a heatsink review say anything you want, simply by not installing right or messing up your test results. I've seen people recommending an HDT-S1283 over a TRUE because it "gets better performance".

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1034/5/

There's no award at the end of this one. Its also testing at a higher TDP. I think you'll soon find out that while the CNPS10x gets alright results around 3GHz, it will quickly fall behind as you approach 4GHz.

Notice how the V10 is noticeably better? Well the Megahalems is even better than the V10, and the Venomous X should be even better.

....and on an unrelated note I'm going on 11 hours stable at 4GHz now

Well crap. I've already changed my motherboard, looks like another trip to micro center is in order haha. They had a Mega Shadow there but it was $100, I almost bought it but the zalman was on sale.

The H50 they have is only $80! Might as well go that route at this point.

I was thinking about the U12P as well but they don't have the 1156 version in the store.
