I kept getting told that the x58 is the for the enthusiast and so forth.
But the p55 is just overall BETTER

integrated north bridge is sooooooooooo badass and helps with overclocking
no more worries about blowing up the motherboard.

p55 is overall better tech

iam sure they will still reserve the x58 for 6 core i7 / i9
but i wish i went p55 now heh

If you don't need the 2x16 PCI-E lanes, you'll be totally happy with the 1156 chipset and an i7 860. One note here though - if you are the type of person who will be looking to upgrade your CPU in the next 1-2 years, there currently is no path to the 6-Core Gulftown on the 1156 chipset. If you're likely to replace your mobo AND processor along the same timeline, then you don't need to worry about it.

Just my 2 cents....
thanks +rep

the only way i would upgrade to a 6 core gulftown is if intel brought out a cheap one OR i could get a used one for ~$300-400.

Does anybody have any info on the 1.21v VTT Max? Is this true? Can you run more voltage through it?

I can get my 860 over 4GHZ but after a few hours of Prime 95 the workers down tools on one of the cores but it passes a few runs of `Intel burn test` and it also passes a couple of hours with `Everest` burn test and according to Everest and Intels criteria, it means the CPU is stable.
Some ppl are hard core Prime 95 adherents and wont accept anything else but i think Prime 95 is not relevant for testing newer processors.

Anyhow, thats a damned good overclock Lynyrd, what did you use for stability testing ?

I'm sure that's not true, it's 1.35vMAX.

It was unstable. I posted that prior to trying to use prime 95 which failed to start XD. I'll try it again a little later but right now I'm back at my stable 4.0ghz clock with 1.296 vCore which isn't bad really.

At that point most people would want to move to a new motherboard anyway for whatever is coming down the road.

On the VTT voltage (which on the 1156 chipset is also called IMC Voltage) I'm currently running mine at 1.3v and could go higher if needed. Depends on your chip and your overclock. Some require more or less.

Does anyone know when the 32nm i5 1156 quads come out? I really want to upgrade to an i5 32nm, but right now all they have are dual core 32nms

I agree as far as i know you should keep it below 1.4, i have some magazine articles on overclocking Lynfields and 1 says dont exceed 1.35 VTT and the other says 1.37 VTT, so i wud try to keep within those bounds and if you need to go to 1.37 i wud look at improving my cooling.

@ Reincarnated.
The 32nm dual cores have only just come out and its looking like they are going to be world beating overclockers as everyone predicted but i dont see any use in rushing to get the quads out any time soon because it just doesnt make sound economic sense. When you think about it, they havent long since had the Lynfield quads on the shelves so to bring out 32nm chips at this stage is gonna make that earlier stock move very slowly and all the retailers are not gonna be too happy about that so i think you will be looking at another 5 months or so, maybe even longer.
