now does that affect stability at all? Is this possible with an oc of 3.8 or 4.0?

Does not affect me... I am good at 3.8, but cant get 4.0 stable with or without it. Does not seem to affect stability at all, IMO.

Edit: EIST is a different story. That kicks in when you have CStates enabled with C3 state or more. This will start messing with your vcore too. Not so good for stability, but I am yet to fully test it.

Well I'm fairly new to this but I filled the thing. I saw that most people chose the Formula III can anyone tell me why they made the sound card's LED blue? What were they thinking.

Just looking at your sig... Your Water block for your CPU,How well does it work for you....What are your idle temps, and load? Looking at getting one for my 860

Thanks

I also haven't noticed any affect from speedstep on the the stability of my overclocks. On the FTW you have to have speedstep enabled to get the x21 (turbo) multi. The board also seems to provide extra overvolting when you enable C1E. It is possible to overclock with everthing enabled including CState but it takes extra effort to get everthing dialed in.

I think it works best with the X3440 cpu because it has the following multis: x19 (native) x20 (turbo) x21 (two threads) x22 (single thread).

Now the i5 750 cpu has the following multis: x20 (native) x21 (turbo) x24 (for two threads).

and the i7 860 cpu has the following multis: x21 (native) x22 (turbo) x25 (two threads) x26 (single thread).

Having the sequential multis like in the X3440 makes it easier to stabilize with higher bclk overclocks.

Hello,

This is my first attempt at the auto-overclocking abilities of the Asus Maximus III Formula. Please see specs in sig. I am interested in the overall quality of this overclock, temps are ok?, etc.

I haven't OC'd in a long time (since first Celeron days) so I hope I am not doing something stupid. I believe the important voltages are well within safe limits for this setup, but if you have tweaking or improved speed suggestions or criticism I am all ears.

That seems like a decent starting point for an "auto" overclock. I would think your chip could probably do 18x200 with ~1.280v vcore (LLC enabled) and ~ 1.25v VTT but you will have test... some cpu are better then others... really nice/lucky ones will do 20x200 with the same voltages or even less.

Max temps seem okay for Linpac. Nice board I'm running one on my #2 testing bench!

4.2GHz

Had 4GHz running stable at 1.35v, so figured why not lol.
Hopefully, I'll be able to drop voltage a bit (literally just booted with this); assuming I can get this stable it'll be my first quad OCed past 4GHz

EDIT:
1.384v okay so far, still in progress
