Intel Core i3/i5/i7 & LGA-1156 Club & Discussion - Page 151

After a lot of thought, I ordered the Intel Xeon X3440 processor. It is technically limited by the 10x memory multiplier, but the Xeon X3440 processor has a reputation of being a very good overclocker, and has the potential to clock to about 4.4 GHz if matched to the right components.

I am hoping for a base clock of perhaps 210-220 MHz, which should be well within the realm of possibility given the EVGA P55 Classified 200 motherboards reputation and the fact it will be water cooled with a 360 mm radiator. That puts me right around 4 GHz, which is my goal. Anything beyond that is a bonus.

If I can get a base clock of 220, that puts my memory at 2200 MHz. It is rated at 2200 MHz ( 2 x 1100 MHz) with 7-10-10-28 timings, so it should be a perfect match.

Double digit for the first three RAM timings, haven't seen that for awhile

People are running these with tighter 6-9-6-25 at 2000 MHz with 1.60 V. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...=239041&page=5

At their rated 2200 MHz, I have seen people using 7-10-7-28 timings. http://www.nexthardware.com/forum/ga...hp?n=12162&w=o

Hey im using GSkill 2000mhz and i should be able to run them at a 12 mem multiplyer right ? But what about the timings ? At the mo they are stock 9,9,9,24, & im just wondrin if it is wise to tighten them up to say 7,7,7,20, with that multiplyer ?

Would I be able to reach higher clocks if I disabled two cores and ran as a dual core on my i7 860? (my BIOS allows me to disable cores)

You can probably get higher clocks by disabling Hyper-Threading.

Yeah, I figured, but if disabling two cores would yield much higher clocks then I'd rather go that route, I want two configs; one everyday use setting and another setting for when I'm emulating my PS2/Wii games (which is limited to two cores, and requires raw CPU speed)

Disabling two cores will probably give you a higher overclocking headroom, since there's less heat to deal with, I think you can lower then voltages too while you're at it
