Here's where I am so far, with vcore set to 1.3125v (LLC ON) and vtt/qpi set at 1.33v. RAM multiplier was set at 6x. Higher multipliers gave me a difficult time, even after manually setting the timings and RAM voltages. So my 8 gigs of DDR3-1600 is running at 1200 right now. Sigh.

I read somewhere that it is usually a harder time OCing when all of the DIMMs are occupied because of the stress on the memory controller. Usually it means a higher QPI/VTT voltage. Somehow a few pages back managed to overclock well with 8 gigs though. His VTT/QPI wasn't nearly as high as mine. I don't know what's going on. At high mem speeds, it's not stress test stable though the system doesn't BSOD from daily usage. Maybe I need to work out my memory timings more. At this point though, my system is stable and I'm not sure if 1600mhz vs 1200mhz is worth the investment in time. I'm happy at 3.8Ghz though I'm certain I can go higher.

Good luck.

BTW, anyone know why CPU-Z doesn't seem to know what MOBO I have? It's the GA-P55-UD3R.

I'll try that. I'm dealing with a bad ram stick here, so I've got to take her' out.

hearing of a few horror stories with some of the P55 boards..

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...d,2436-15.html - doesn't sound good for the lower end boards.

May want to check all the pins are making contact..

I have a request, can you please change the title to i5 and i7 LGA 1156 club, because its not a LGA 1156 club if people with server processors cannot join. Nice club though, a lot of people working with it. I like P55 and almost went with it.

This is only caused by budget boards that aren't meant to handle the amount of voltage that people are pumping. ASrock has already sent out a BIOS update which doesn't allow the processor to get to such high volts and destroy your board (P55 PRO) MSI and ECS still have to find a way to fix this. Anyone with a higher end board shouldn't have a problem, unless your socket is manufactured by Foxconn, then you MAY want to be weary.

You mean Coolermaster V8.

Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed it with it myself, like I said in my video and earlier, I tried overclocking it to 4Ghz and it was idling at 50 and 80+ at load which was a no no for me.

Due to the lack of socket 1156 coolers I thought the V8 was meant to be good, reading the reviews made me get it but it turned out to be a disappointment. I've ordered a Zalman CNPS-10-EX and I heard it was good, hopefully that won't disappoint.

And believe me, here in Australia there are hardly any good CPU coolers especially in retail. May have to get one ordered online for a good one.

For lower end P55 mobos, I only recommend ASUS and Gigabyte. ASUS & Gigabyte has always made excellent lower end mobos and hopefully they're still doing this.

Here are a couple names of the voltage setting to which you refer:

On my Evga 760 BIOS : CPU VTT
Asus RE2: QPI/DRAM
Gigabyte GA5: ?? Check what it's called.

What is the max on this setting, is it the same as i7's max?

If so, you still have some headroom on CPU VTT (AKA QPI/DRAM), but that is a big if so.

Also, you should initially start the OC'ing process by reducing the memory clock and increasing the timings. So you would get the CPU OC stable at 1200 MHz memory clock, looser timings, then get the memory OC stable.
You might also try memtest, to check for errors.
You may need to bump the DRAM v a little bit?

In general, make one change at a time, then test.
