not enough power for 7800gtx

Thread Starter
i started getting this error msg from forceware: The NVIDIA System Sentinel is reporting that the NVIDIA-powered graphics card is not recieving sufficient power. To protect your hardware from potential damage or causing a potential system lockup, the graphics processor has lowered its performance to a level that allows continued safe operations.

i have no idea why this happens. card is installed properly and cable is the power cable is plugged in. any ideas?

An NF4 motherboard, a 7800GTX, 2 Raptors, water cooling...and a dinky little TT power supply

You should have a better PSU than that for a system that powerful.

My 600w OCZ isn't enough (Or good enough) for SLI. I was getting that message and shutdowns in SLI mode. Is your PSU SLI certified? If not, it looks like you will need a new one. Its never good to hear that... believe me, I know lol.

Perhaps the continuous load for the PSU is simply too much and some parts are starting to fail. Do you have access to a volt/multimeter? If so what you should do is monitor the 12V voltage off the 6 pin connector from the videocard, if it dips dramatically during videocard load then at least you've isolated your problem.

A 480W PSU from Thermaltake with a single 18A +12V rail cannot be expected to power that system correctly. Like it or not, that PSU is not substansial enough for your computer.

I think it should power it correctly. I know this is a stupid question, but make sure you plugged in the power connector securely. I forgot to plug in the power connector on my 6600gt, and it said the exact same thing.

Make sure you plugged the power connector into the back of the card.
