5870 crossfire vs 5870x2 - Page 3

just get a single for now, you probably wont even need to x2 later on unless your gaming on multimonitor because apparently these cards are beasts enough that at any lower res would be fine. unless you want overkill and or trying to get the best bench results then by all means go x2

From the results currently posted, I would need crossfire to play Crysis how I would like to. I imagine that some of the dx11 games will need more then Crysis, therefore it wouldn't be overkill. Kind of expensive though, seeing as the 5870 is 400 .

Yeah I'm kinda curious about this too but here's what I've been trying to figure out. I hear that the 5870 is going to be the first card that might be able to fully saturate a PCI-E x8 speed slot, so wouldn't that mean a 5870x2 has a chance of fully saturating a PCI-E x16 slot?

X2 is supposed to launch in October and be about ~$600. Maybe when the GT395 comes out it will drop to about $400 or so. *hoping*

I'm planning on going for a Quad-Fire system with 2 5870 X2's but I may just end up going with a single 5870 X2.

If I can keep the GPU setup at or under a grand I think I could do it. Cutting it pretty close here though lol.

As far as I can tell the 5870 is going to max out any game to come, even on your 30", for the next couple years.

So why would you even need a second one?

But if you do, I say get the single card 5870x2
