Intel Q9550 running hot on idle temps - Page 2

I had slightly worse temps than you with my S1283, I wonder if we've found it's limits now. With 40 deg case temps my Q9550 is now circa 58 degrees on load, that's a Mega with IC7, A panaflo on the cooler and one behind it as an exhaust, not push pull as such but there is a decent flow of air straight through the top of my case, I just need a better front intake now.

Suprising how much air the panaflo's can shift, mine are set so they are quiet but the air comes flooding out of the back of the case.

Then perhaps it's curing. Either way, I'm glad the temperature is lower. But could it be lower due to lower ambient temps right now?

i might invest in a few decent fans, i am using stock fans that came with antec and the fan that came with cpu cooler, albeit i got 6 120mm fand and one 200mm fan running at medium speeds

But that should by way more than enough, especially with these ambient temperatures. It has to be something else.

I'd invest in a cooler before you invest in fans.

K, just got home. albeit my room a a tad cooler than yesterday, but i am getting core temps of 45c. Which is way better , i think two things are happening. A. ambient temperature plays a good part in temps and B. I think my thermal paste is curing. 45c is a good temp to be idle at. compared to the mid 50's i used to idle at

May I add that the idle temp of 45nm C2D/C2Q parts is almost always wrong? The load is usually correct though. So don't focus too much on the idle temp, but at the load temp instead.
